G10 The grass is always greener (Discussing common sayings)
T父さん(米)

ことわざがテーマのところ。
2月終わりごろT父さんに当たったときやってます。
T父さんは個人的にここが好きなんだそうです(汗)。

・A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.
  掌中の一羽は、薮中の二羽に値す。→明日の百より、今日の五十。
・Variety is the spice of life.
  変化は人生の薬味。
・Don't count your chickens before they've hatched.
  とらぬ狸の皮算用
・Absence makes the heart grow fonder.
  留守は愛しい気持ちを育てる。
・Too many cooks spoil the broth.
  船頭多くして船山に上る。

イソップ童話の"The Hare and the Tortoise (ウサギとカメ)"はお馴染みだけど、
"The Fox and the Grapes"は知らなかったデス。
負け惜しみは自分のためにならないというお話。
"The Scorpion and the Frog"はとっさにわからなかったけど、
T父さんの説明を聞いて、ああそんなのもあったっけ？という感じでした。
教訓に満ちてますね……。

レッスンのテーマは"dilemma"
確か以前もよくこのテーマでディスカッションさせられたっけ。
"dilemma"って何？とのっけからつっこまれる。
何度もやっているから、スラスラといえなくてはいけないのだけど、しどろもどろ（汗）。
A situation in which a decision needs to be made and all choices are equally good or bad.
が模範解答。
海外へ赴任することのpros & consを挙げていき、それをもとにディスカッション。

Main Language:
Considering the consequences:
(Taking the job) could possibly mean ...
If (you turn the position down), it's likely that ...
(Our daughter) might have the opportunity to ...
(His wife) won't be able to .../might have to .../will be forced to .../may have trouble...
If I (accept the offer), I'm going to end up ...

Expressing opinions:
The (positives) outweigh the (negatives).
We can't afford to (pass this up).
If you (don't go), you'll be kicking yourself later.
You'd have to be crazy to (go).

Reflecting on past decisions:
If I'd decided to ..., the maybe I would have ...
If we'd known ..., we would have ....
He would have been better off ...

英語圏ならいいけど、そうじゃなかったらイヤだなあ……。
