長年、見ることを切望していた桜島を、とうとう見ることができました。
2か月前に安い航空チケットを手に入れたのに、7月24日に爆発的な大噴火。噴火警戒レベルも避難に相当する最高レベル５になった時は驚きました。
噴火が収まってきていたので安心していたところ、台風が接近...本当に桜島を見ることができるのか、ひやひやでした。

I have longed to see Sakurajima for a long time, and finally I was able to see it!
I got a cheap air ticket 2 months ago, but there was an explosive eruption on July 24. I was surprised when the volcanic alert level became 5, the highest level equivalent to evacuation.
Though the eruption was getting smaller, the typhoon was approaching Kagoshima. I didn't know if I could really see Sakurajima before departure.

↓桜島は「島」となっていますが、1914年の大正噴火の溶岩によって瀬戸海峡（幅330-400m)が埋め立てられ、東側の大隅半島と陸続きになったという事です。
Jima of Sakurajima means "island",  but lava from the 1914 Taisho eruption filled the Seto Strait (330 -400 m wide) and connected it with the Osumi Peninsula on the east side.

↓鹿児島港から桜島に向かうフェリー乗り場
フェリーはコロナで減便になっているということでしたが、24時間運航しているようでした。
朝6時から夜8時までは20分おきに運行していました。
料金は片道200円で後払い。船室でゆっくりできて、約15分の船旅は快適で、バスなどより便利に感じました。

It was said that the ferry service has been reduced due to Corona, but it seemed to operate 24 hours a day.
It ran every 20 minutes from 6:00 AM to 8:00 PM.
The fare is 200 yen one way and you pay later. I could relax in the cabin, and the 15 minute boat trip was comfortable and seemed more convenient than taking a bus.
