急性心膜炎の合併症であり、心膜炎症の心筋への進展が特徴で、トロポニン値の上昇として現れる。一般に急性心膜炎として評価され、治療される。
心膜というのは,心臓の外側を包むように覆う膜のことです。心臓の外側にひっついている臓側心膜と,心臓を取り囲む周りの組織にひっついている壁側心膜の 2 枚からなります。この 2 枚の心膜の間には狭い隙間が空いていて,心膜腔と呼んでいます。心膜炎は両心膜および心膜腔に炎症が生じる病気です。しばしば心膜腔に液体が貯留します。「心臓に水が貯まっている」といわれる状態になるのです。
しばしば胸に痛みを感じますが、息を吸い込んだときにその痛みが強くなります。
たまに心臓の壁(心筋壁)にも炎症が波及して、心筋炎を併発することもあります(心膜心筋炎)。
