My father-in-law

My father-in-law - I call him "Otosan" - has lived alone in his own house since his wife passed away on December 31 of last year. He and I live in the same yard, but not in the same house. I visit him everyday, but he still feels lonely.

His daughter, who is my sister-in-law lives far away, so it is impossible for her to come and take care of him very often. However, my sister-in-law and her husband stayed with him for a month after Otosan's wife's death, because my sister-in-law's husband has already retired and it was possible for them to stay for a while.

告別式と５０日祭


２０１６年１２月３１日に義母が84歳で亡くなりました。
お通夜は１月４日、告別式は１月５日に行いました。
年始の忙しい時期にも関わらず、３００人もの方が弔問にお越しいただきました。
ＥＣＣからも供花や弔電を頂戴致しました。
写真は、葬儀の際にＥＣＣ他から頂いた供花です。

一昨日２月１９日は、５０日祭を行いました。
昨年秋に、檀家抜けし神道になったばかりで、初めての神式での葬儀、法要でしたので、戸惑うこともありましたが、
無事に済ませることができました。

忌明けし、ひと段落したので、これからは、滞っていたブログの更新を進めていきたいと思います。

Nothing what to write about

The flu is prevalent in this area now, but I am doing great so far.

I checked my old diaries to find out what I wrote in January and February. There were few diaries I wrote in winter. I am thinking about why I couldn't write. I remembered that I was taking English-conversation lessons at the time. I could say anything I wanted to as I talked with the teachers every day. I was satisfied with our conversations, and there was nothing what I wanted to write about after that. I've quit taking the lessons, but nothing special occurs to me to write. Although I don't have any special events this month, I am still pretty busy.

Sleeping Beauty

私が子供のころ、ディズニーのお話の中で一番好きだったのは、眠れる森の美女。
もちろん当時は日本語で書かれたものを読みました。小学低学年向けの絵本でしたので、お話はかなり短く、また、魔女の登場する場面は詳しく載っておらず、とてもきれいな絵図ばかりでした。　今回買った本は和書ですが、大人向け英語絵本として製作されているのでストーリーは長く、子供向け絵本には載っていなかった戦う場面も載っています。



眠れる森の美女にも、魔女にも、ちゃんと名前があったんですね。

Buying a book

I went to a bookstore to buy a housekeeping accounts book, but they didn't have them anymore, because it was too late to buy one in February. Housekeeping accounts books are usually bought in December, like calendars and daily planers.
I usually buy one before New Year's, but I couldn't. I felt sorry to leave the store without buying anything, so I walked around to find something interesting.
Then I found a book, "Sleeping Beauty", written in English. I read the story in Japanese when I was a child. I bought it and hurried to another bookstore in the next city to find a housekeeping accounts book.

The 50 days Shintoism service

We are going to hold the 50 days Shintoism service for the death on February 19. Shintoism memorial services are simpler than Buddhism ones. With Buddhist rites, flowers, fruits and cooked food are placed on a alter.
On the other hand, sakaki twigs, a small amount of uncooked rice and dried fish are placed on a Shinto alter.
