『日本書紀』用明天皇 6
二年夏四月乙巳朔丙午、御新嘗於磐余河上。是日、天皇得病還入於宮、群臣侍焉。天皇詔群臣曰「朕思欲歸三寶、卿等議之。」群臣入朝而議、物部守屋大連與中臣勝海連、違詔議曰「何背國神、敬他神也。由來不識若斯事矣。」蘇我馬子宿禰大臣曰「可隨詔而奉助、詎生異計。」於是、皇弟皇子皇弟皇子者、穴穗部皇子、卽天皇庶弟引豐國法師闕名也入於內裏。物部守屋大連、耶睨大怒。
是時、押坂部史毛屎、急來、密語大連曰「今、群臣圖卿、復將斷路。」大連聞之卽退於阿都阿都大連之別業所在地名也集聚人焉。中臣勝海連、於家集衆隨助大連。

In the second year, summer, fourth month, second day, a great Niiname (new grain offering) festival was held at Kawakami (河上) in Iware (磐余). On this day, the Emperor fell ill and returned to the palace, where the court officials gathered by his side. The Emperor addressed them, saying:
“I wish to place my faith in the Three Treasures: the Buddha, the Law, and the Sangha(僧). I ask that you all deliberate on this matter.”
The court officials entered the palace to discuss the issue.
Mononobe no Moriya no Ōmuraji (物部守屋大連) and Nakatomi no Katsumi no Muraji (中臣勝海連) opposed the Emperor’s decree, arguing, “Why should we turn our backs on the gods of our land (国つ神) to revere the deities of another country? Such a thing is entirely unheard of.”
In contrast, Soga no Umako no Ōomi (蘇我馬子宿禰大臣) stated:
“We should follow the Emperor’s decree and lend him our support. Who would dare suggest otherwise?”
At this time, Prince Anahobe (穴穂部皇子), the Emperor’s half-brother, entered the inner palace accompanied by a monk Toyokuni (豊国法師), whose name is unknown. This action greatly angered Mononobe no Moriya no Ōmuraji, who glared at them in fury.
Meanwhile, Oshisakabe no Fuhito no Kekuso (押坂部史毛屎) hurriedly arrived and secretly informed Moriya, “The court officials are plotting against you and are preparing to block your escape routes.”
Hearing this, Moriya withdrew to his villa in Ato (阿都), located in Kawachi (河内), and began gathering troops. Nakatomi no Katsumi no Muraji also rallied his forces at his residence to assist Moriya.
≪この英文の和訳≫
(在位)二年夏四月二日、磐余（いわれ）の河上（かわかみ）にて、新嘗（にいなめ）の大祭が執り行われた。この日、天皇は御病にかかられ、宮中にお戻りになった。群臣(まえつきみ）は天皇の御側に集まり、天皇は群臣に向かってこう仰せになられた。「朕(私)は仏（ほとけ）、法（ほう）、僧（そう）の三宝（さんぽう）に帰依（きえ）したいと考えている。卿（けい）たちもこれをよく議論してほしい」。群臣は宮中に入り、この件について協議を行った。物部守屋大連（もののべのもりやのおおむらじ）と中臣勝海連（なかとみのかつみのむらじ）は、天皇の御詔（みことのり）に反対してこう述べた。「なぜ我が国の神々（くにつかみ）に背いて、他国の神を崇める必要があるのか。そもそも、このようなことはこれまで聞いたことがない」。これに対し、蘇我馬子宿禰大臣（そがのうまこすくねのおおおみ）はこう言った。「詔に従い、天皇にお力添えするべきである。他の意見を持ち出す者がいるとは思えない」。この時、穴穂部皇子（あなほべのみこ）は豊国法師（とよくにのほうし 名は不詳)を伴い、内裏（だいり）に入った。この光景を見た物部守屋大連は、これを睨みつけ、大いに怒った。そのころ、押坂部史毛屎（おしさかべのふびとけくそ）が急ぎやってきて、物部守屋大連に密かに告げた。「今、群臣たちはあなたを陥れようとしており、すぐにでも退路を断とうとしています」。これを聞いた物部守屋大連は、河内（かわち）の阿都（あと）にある自らの別業（べつごう）へと退き、人々を集めた。中臣勝海連も自邸にて兵を募り、大連を支援しようとした。
