レッスンから学ぶ様々な“部屋の明るさ＆暗さ”を表現する英語

Good morning and thank you very much for your visit to English Plus blog!
Today, let's learn some English (adjectives) to describe how bright/dark.
During one of our lessons the other day, there was a conversation topic about houses.
Our students were talking about inside, interior, outside, and location of their houses.
Also, there was a story about how bright/dark their houses/rooms were.
There are some English words to describe how bright/dark, and today let's learn some!
For example,
"The place I visited yesterday was..."
・blinding
・radiant
・bright
・well-lit
・dim
・dark
・pitch-dark
Let's try to use some vocabulary to describe some place!

今日は“レッスンから学ぶ様々な“部屋の明るさ＆暗さ”を表現する英語”です。

先日のレッスンの中で、家についての話題がありました。

そのレッスンの中では、家の中（家具・インテリア）や家の外（立地などのロケーション）が話題に上がっていました。

それらの話題の中の１つに家・部屋の“明るさ・暗さ”に関することがありましたが、英語では様々な“明るさ・暗さ”を表現する英語があります。

今日は“明るさ・暗さを表現する時に使える英語”を学んでいきたいと思います。

例えば、"The place I visited yesterday was..."（昨日行った場所は…だった）

・blinding （目がくらむように明るい）

・radiant （まぶしい）

・bright （とても明るい）

・well-lit （明るい）

・dim （薄暗い）

・dark （暗い）

・pitch-dark （真っ暗な）

これらの英語で微妙な明るさ・暗さを表現することができるので、少しずつ使い分けをしてみましょう！

日常でもよく出てくる接頭辞"mono-"から始まる英語

Today, let's learn some English vocabulary!
There are a lot of ways to learn English vocabulary and one of them is with "prefix."
Actually, there are a lot of prefixes, but let's learn one by one!
Today, the prefix I'd like to pick up "mono-", which means "one."
There are several English words with "mono-", for example...
・monocycle
・monologue
・monochrome
・monotone
・monocellular
・monolingual
・monodrama
Let's learn and use them little by little!

本日は“日常でもよく出てくる接頭辞"mono-"から始まる英語”です。

英語を学ぶ際に避けて通れないのが英単語の学習ですが、単純に覚えようと思っても、なかなか難しい…という方もいらっしゃるかと思います。

そんな時におすすめなのが、“接頭辞”から学ぶ学習方法です。

接頭辞にはたくさんの種類がありますが、１つ１つ接頭辞に絡めて単語を増やしていきましょう！

今日取り上げる接頭辞は“mono-”から始まる英語です。

接頭辞“mono-”は“one（１つ）”という意味があり、“mono-”から始まる英語には例えば以下のものがあります。

・monocycle （一輪車）

・monologue （独白）

・monochrome （白黒写真）

・monotone （(色彩・文体などの)単調さ）

・monocellular （単細胞）

・monolingual （一か国語だけ話す人）

・monodrama （一人芝居）

上記のmonoに関する英語は日常でもよく見たり、使ったりする英語だと思います。

mono-に関連付けて覚えて、使っていきましょう！

We sometimes have a chance to say "ganbarimasu" in our daily lives or business situations.
Today, let's learn "ganbarimasu!" in English.
For instance,
・I'll do my best!
・I'll do everything I can!
・I'll give it all I've got!
・I will give it my best shot!
You may need to use these phrases in the near future, so let's learn and master them now!

上記の表現で“ベストを尽くします！”というような意味になります。

日常英会話に使える英語表現 ～ 調理方法に関する英語（その１）

Good morning, and thank you for your visit to English Plus blog!
Today, let's learn some cooking methods in English.
There is a conversation lesson about cooking at our English school.
In the lesson, we learn some cooking methods and food in English.
Needless to say, cooking is very important in our lives and let's learn some of them in English!
Today, let's try to make a dialogue, for instance, A&B are in the kitchen.
A: "Can I help you?"
B: "Yes. Can you...?"
・cut (up) the vegetables
・chop (up) the onions
・slice the bread
・grate the cheese
・peel the orange
Let's try to think these phrases in Japanese now.

本日は“日常英会話に使える英語表現 ～ 調理方法に関する英語（その１）”です。

English Plus（英語学校）の日常英会話のレッスンの中に、料理・調理方法に関するレッスンがあります。

レッスンの中では、調理方法など料理や調理に関することを学んでいきますが、料理は日常の生活において身近なトピックだと思います。

今日は日常英会話形式で、いくつかの調理方法を英語で学んでいきたいと思います。

例えば、ＡさんとＢさんが一緒にキッチンにいるという設定で、下記の日本語を英語にしていってみましょう。

A: "Can I help you?"（お手伝いしましょうか？）

B: "Yes. Can you...?"（お願いします。…をしていただけますか？）

・野菜を切る

・たまねぎをみじん切りにする

・パンを薄く切る

・チーズをおろす

・オレンジの皮をむく

いかがでしたでしょうか？英語がすぐに口からでてきたでしょうか？

ビジネスでも使える電話での会話 ～ 聞き取りにくい状況の時に使える英語表現

Today, let's learn some useful English phrases for business telephone conversation.
I guess some of you may have experienced talking on the phone at work.
Also, you might have had trouble hearing the caller's voice clearly on the phone.
In this case, the following English phrases may be useful!
For example...
・I'm sorry, but we seem to have a bad connection.
・We seem to have a bad connection and I'm sorry I couldn't catch what you were saying.
・There's something wrong with the line.
・Something is wrong with the line and I can't hear you well.
If you have trouble hearing on the phone, try to use one of these English phrases on the phone!

また、英語の電話の最中に相手の声がはっきり聞き取れない、等のちょっとしたトラブルの経験もあるかと思います。

今日のブログはビジネスでも使える“聞き取りにくい状況の時に使える英語表現”を学んでいきたいと思います。

例えば…

・I'm sorry, but we seem to have a bad connection.

・We seem to have a bad connection and I'm sorry I couldn't catch what you were saying.

・There's something wrong with the line.

・Something is wrong with the line and I can't hear you well.

上記の表現で、基本的に“お電話が遠いようなのですが…”や“電話の接続が悪いようで…”というような意味になります。

万が一に備えて、１つでも覚えておきましょう！
