本日は“英語学校起業のためのマーケティングプラン”に関してです。

昨日は川崎において“川崎起業家塾”に参加し、マーケティングについて学びました。

以前は漠然と、“マーケティング＝調査”だと思っておりましたが、昨日のセミナーにおいて“マーケティングとは分析→目標→実行という一連のプロセス”だということを、改めて学ぶことができました。

また、そのプロセスにおいては“英語産業全体の環境＋自分の経営環境”をしっかりと見つめると同時に、そのプロセスに関わる戦略や知識を得ることができました。

学んだことを今後へしっかりと活かし、英語学校という“夢”を確かな“現実”にしていきたいと思います！！

Good morning.
Yesterday, I attended a business seminar in Kawasaki and learned about "marketing."
I used to think that marketing is checking, but at the seminar I studied that marketing is a process of analyzing, setting up a target, and carrying it out.
Also I learned some strategies of how to analyze, set up and so on.
I heard that in the process, it's very important to know about English industry and my business situation.
I'm sure I'll use the knowledge I learned yesterday in order to make my dream to establish my English school come true!!
I'm sure any dreams will come true!

“スピーキング＝話す事”において最も重要なことは“簡単な英語で英語回路を頭の中に作ること”です。

英語回路を作ることとは、すなわち“瞬間的に日本語→英語にする力”をつけることです。

英語回路を作るのに、おすすめのトレーニングが“音読トレーニング”です。
（音読とは字の通り、声に出して英文を読むトレーニングのことです）

Good morning!
I'd like to focus on "how to improve your English communication skill, especially speaking skill" today.
Needless to say, if you want to communicate in English, "speaking skill" & "listening skill" are necessary.

Regarding speaking skill, the most important point is "to make an English sentence quickly in your head."
To be precise, it's "to translate Japanese into English instantly" in your head.

If you continue training every day, you'll get your "English brain" little by little.

すぐに使える英語 （痛っ！！の表現）

おはようございます。英語講師のarataです。

本日は“すぐに使える英語 （痛っ！！の表現）”についてです。

日常生活の中で“痛っ！！”という場面はあると思います。

例えば、何か硬い物に足先をぶつけてしまった時などは、咄嗟に“痛っ！！”と声にでてしまう時があります。

もちろん英語でも例外はなく、英語に直すと"ouch!!"という表現になります。

YouTube上で"ouch!!"の上手な使い方を見つけたので、どのように使うのか参考までにどうぞ！！


普段の生活の中でも、このような短いフレーズを使うように心がけるだけでも、英語脳に変わっていきます！

Hi.
Today's topic is exclamation "ouch!"
As you probably know, "ouch" is an exclamation expressing sudden pain.
By the way, in Japanese, we say "ita!" to express sudden pain.
I found a good example to use "ouch" on YouTube, so please check it out!
If you try to use even this kind of small piece of English phrase "ouch" in your daily life, you'll improve your English skills a lot more quickly!!
It seems a tiny step, but in the end it will make a big difference!
Just try it!!

英語講師の留学経験 （トロントでの外食のすすめ）

おはようございます。英語講師のarataです。

本日は“英語講師の留学経験 （トロントでの外食のすすめ）”です。

一人での留学など海外での生活ではもちろん、自分の身の回りのことをしなくてはならず、自炊の機会も自ずと増えます。

それと同時に、何となく自炊をする気になれない時や、友達とご飯を食べる時など、どうしても“外食”の機会も多くなります。

そんな時、トロントは多種多様な文化が混在している街で、レストラン選びには全く困りません。

ダウンタウンの中だけでも、中華街・ギリシャ街・イタリア街・東欧街（ポーランド）・韓国街・ブラジル街・インド街など多様にあります。

自分がトロントに住んでいた時、自分の周りでは韓国街（Bathurst駅～Christie駅の間）で“カムジャッタン”と言う豚の骨を煮込んだスープが人気でした。

値段も安く、食べ応え十分です。

トロントへ行ったら是非！！

Hi, how was your weekend?
Did you eat out during the weekend? (Actually, I did.)
Today, I'd like to talk about "Eating out in Toronto."
When you live abroad alone, needless to say, you have to take care of yourself, such as doing the laundry, cleaning, and cooking.
I usually did these household chores, but sometimes I didn't feel like cooking or I wanted to go out to eat with your friends, especially on Fridays.
The day like this I usually ate out with my friends.
One good thing in Toronto is that it's home to virtually all of the world's culture groups, so there are a wide variety of restaurants!!
We can try Greek/Chinese/Korean/Indian/Italian/Polish/Brazilian...etc in the downtown Toronto.
When I was there, one of my and my friends favorite dish was "Kamjattan" (Porkborn soup)
It was really resonable, and the portion was quite big!!
When you are hungry and don't want to cook, go to Korean town and order one for you!!
However, "Don't forget to leave some tip at a restaurant!"

携帯メールでの楽しい英語表現

以前、このブログで“手軽にできる英語能力の伸ばし方”の方法として“E-mailや携帯でのメールのやりとりを英語でする”ということを紹介しました。

本日は“携帯メールでの楽しい英語表現”です。

“英文でのメールでのやりとり”はとても楽しいものですが、
例えば"you"を打つ場合、自分の携帯ですと"y""o""u"と３回打たなければならず、少々面倒くさい点もあります。

そこで、簡単かつ楽しくコミュニケーションできる携帯メールでの英語表現です！！
一例がこちら・・・

and: &

for: 4

please：pls
see you: c u
thanks: thx

例えば、"Are you ok?"と打ちたい場合は "r u ok?"となります。

まずは、気軽に（自分も良く使う）"c u"から始めてみましょう！！

Today's topic is "text message abbreviations"
I mentioned in my blog "how to improve your English skills in your daily life" before.

One of the easiest ways is to "write textmessage in English!"
However, it takes some time to type textmessges in English with Japanese mobile phone because when you want to type "you", you have to type "y""o""u" each.
Then, I'd like to suggest text message abbreviations.
There are some examples below...
as soon as possible: asap
by the way: btw
are: r
and: &
at: @
for: 4
you: u
please：pls
see you: c u
thanks: thx
So, if you want to say "Are you ok?", you can type "r u ok?"
If you use these abbreviations, your text message communication might be more fun!!
Please try to use some!!

すぐに使える英語 （"the"によって恥をかく可能性がある表現）

本日は“すぐに使える英語 （"the"によって恥をかく可能性がある表現）”です。

普段は何気なく使っている"the"ですが、“the"が“ある”か“ない”かでは全く違う意味になるものもあります。

例えば・・・

"Do you have time?"
"Do you have the time?"

海外を歩いていると、この２つの疑問文を聞かれる可能性があると思います。
が、２つの文章の意味はまったく違います・・・

"Do you have time?"は、“今、時間ありますか？”の意味で、異性を誘う時などに使われる表現に対し、
"Do you have the time?"は"What time is it now?"と同じく“今、何時ですか？”という表現になります。

"Do you have the time?"（時間は何時ですか？）と聞かれたのに、"Do you have time?"（あなたのお時間ありますか？）と勘違いし、"Yes, I do."や"No, I don't."と答えてしまいますと恥をかく可能性もありますので、"the"があるかないか、よく聞いてから答えましょう！！

Hi!
Since I started learning English, I've tried to use a variety of new expressions that I just learned.
Of course my students are trying to use new expressions as well.
However, at times we've made big mistakes and got embarrassed...
Today's topic is from one of my (& my students') embarrassing stories about "the".
When speaking English, I don't usually pay attention to "the" so much.
Nonetheless, in the following case, I have to pay special attention.
"Do you have time?" & "Do you have the time?"
These two questions are frequently asked, but the meanings of the two sentences are totally different.
While "Do you have the time?" means "What time is it now?", "Do you have time?" means "Do you have free time?"
Once in a while, I hear my students' embarrassing story about their misunderstanding that they were actually asked "Do you have the time?", but they thought the question was "Do you have time?" and they answered "Yes, I do" or "No, I don't."
When you are asked a question "Do you have (the) time?", pay special attention to "the"!!

英語学校設立のための物件探しの旅

おはようございます。英語講師のarataです。

昨日はあいにくの雨でしたが、祝日ということもあり川崎駅周辺の“物件探しの旅”へ行ってきました。

川崎駅は、最近受講しております“川崎起業家塾”の最寄り駅ということもあり、駅周辺ならば地図なしでもいける！！と勝手に思っていましたが、知っていたのは“本当に川崎駅周辺だけ”でした・・・念のため地図を持っていって正解でした。

主に川崎市の商店街の空き店舗や、その周りの雰囲気を見てきたのですが、川崎駅から少し離れた５分から１０分くらいの場所にも、“ビジネスの可能性”があると感じました。

また、“ラゾーナ川崎”など大きな商業施設の特徴やその影響など、川崎の現状も少し知ることができました。

雨の中でしたが、“実際に歩き回って良かった！”と思います。

いろいろな点で今回の旅を今後、生かしていきたいと思います。
２０１１年４月の英語学校起業に向けて、行動あるのみです！！

Hi, how was your holiday yesterday?
It was a rainy day in Kanagawa, but I took a building-check tour to see some vacant buildings and around there yesterday.
Yesterday, I mainly walked around Kawasaki station.
I thought I knew a lot about around Kawasaki sta and I wouldn't need a map, but it turned out that I knew ONLY around the station...so, I was really glad that I brought a map just in case.
I checked some available buildings in shopping streets and the atmoshphere around the buildings, and also saw some huge shopping malls, such as Lazona Kawasaki.
After I walked around these places, I found out the pros and cons of these big shopping malls, but also I found out that there is still a possibility to open my Englsih school in some areas which are a 5-10 min distance from the station.
Although it often rained hard while walking, I'm glad to see and check there!
I've got almost 6 months left to open my dream English school, so I'll take a step forward day by day!

英語講師おすすめの映画 （英会話を学ぶのに役立つ一本）

本日は、“英語講師おすすめの映画 （英会話を学ぶのに役立つ一本）”です。

本日おすすめの映画はこちら・・・

"Before Sunrise"と"Before Sunset"です。

"Before Sunrise"は1995年が舞台で、"Before Sunset"その9年後の2004年が舞台になっています。

この映画のユニークな点は、実際に主人公の２人（Ethan HawkeとJulie Delpy）も映画の設定同様に（９年後）、しっかりと９年間分の年を重ねているいう点です。
（確かに二人とも９年前に比べると、リアルに年を重ねているのがわかります）

そのような事実もあり、演技もとても自然です。

また物語も、とても静かなラブストーリーで、主人公の２人が“歩きながらいろいろな話題について話す”のがメインとなっているので、特に生の英会話を学習するにはとてもおすすめの一本です！！


それではBefore Sunriseより今日の一言："I always think that if I could just accept the fact that my life was supposed to be difficult, you know, that's what's to be expected, then, I might not get so pissed off about it, and I'd just be glad when something nice happens. "

Good morning, it's a national holiday!
When you have nothing to do day like today, why don't you watch movies?
Today, I recommend "Before Sunrise" & "Before Sunset"
They're drama films and the story of "Before Sunrise" is mostly in Vienna in 1995, and "Before Sunset" is in Paris in 2004.
This means there is a 9-year blank between the two movies.
The unique point of this movie is that the two main actors (Ethan Hawke&Julie Delpy) waited 9 years to shoot this movie.
Maybe that's why these two actors act very naturally in the film "Before Sunset."
Actually, in these 2 movies, technically, they walk and talk, and not much happens.
So, you can concentrate on their conversation & you can learn natural conversation through the film!!

英語講師の留学経験 （トロントの便利な公共交通機関）

おはようございます。英語講師のarataです。

本日は“英語講師の留学経験 （トロントの便利な公共交通機関）”です。

トロントはカナダで一番、公共交通機関が発達している街です。

トロント市内では、TTC(toronto transit commission)という会社が“地下鉄・バス・ストリートカー”を走らせています。

このTTCの優れている点は・・・
・同一方向であれば、距離に関わらずどこまで行っても同一料金でトロント市内の目的地へ行くことが可能な点（現在、2010年9月の時点で$3）
・地下鉄・バス・ストリートカーが相互乗り換え可能という点です。

日本から来た時、玄関口となるトロント・ピアソン国際空港もTTCのバス・地下鉄を乗りつけば、$3で大抵の市内の目的地まで行くことが可能です。

ただ、地下鉄は迷うことは少ないかもしれませんが、バスやストリートカーでは複数の線が走っているので、万が一のために周囲の人に聞けるよう英語力をあげておきましょう！
不安な時は、このフレーズが便利です。
"Does this bus go to Union station?"（このバスはユニオンステーションに行きますか？）

Good morning.
Today, I'd like to talk about the transportation system in Toronto.
I can say that Toronto's transportation system which is operated by TTC (Toronto transit commission) is one of the best in Canada. (but not perfect though...)
TTC operates subway, bus, and street car all around the city.
The good points of TTC I personally think are...
・You can go anywhere at the same price of $3 (Sep, 2010)
・You can transfer, for example from bus to subway, subway to street car without any cost
In Japan, there is no system like this.
We have to pay each time we transfer.
Anyway, when you come from Japan, you might get to Toronto Pearson International Airport.
From there, if you use TTC, you can get your destination in Toronto at $3.
Though the subway is easy to get familiar with, the bus and the street car are a little bit complicated, so before you get lost, you should ask in English!!
e.g. "Does this bus go to Union station?"

英語講師から見た“英語力が伸びる人の共通点”

おはようございます。英語講師のarataです。

本日は“英語講師から見た英語力が伸びる人の共通点”についてです。

大手英会話学校の講師として始めたのを皮切りに、英語講師として早５年が経ちました。

これまでに、本当にいろいろな国の生徒の方々を見てきましたが、“英語力が伸びる人には共通点がある”ということが経験上、徐々にわかってきた気がします。

その共通点とは・・・“何かしらの目的や目標が明確である”ということです。

身近な例ですと、
“次のTOEICは６００点獲得！！”
“次の海外旅行では、もっと英語でのコミュニケーションを図る！！”
“ビジネス上で、失礼のないような言い方を学び、すぐにビジネスで使いたい！！”
といった感じです。

英語講師として一つだけアドバイスをするとすれば・・・
“いつまでに”“目的・目標を達成する”ことを常に“心にとどめておくこと”すなわち“モチベーションにすること”が英語力の伸びにつながると思います。

まだ目的・目標が見つからない人は“自分の好きな映画を字幕なしで３ヵ月後には見たい！！”など身近なゴールを設定することをおすすめします！

それでは今日の英語での一言："Set a goal and practice until you get there!!"

Good morning!
It's been almost five years since I started my job - English teacher.
I first started to work for a large chain English conversation school in Japan.
Then, I taught English at ESL school in Toronto, Canada, and after coming back to Japan, I taught at a vocational school.
Now, I'm teaching English at cafe with my own style.
Through my experience as an English teacher, I've found out there is a tendency that some students improve their English skills more quickly than others do.
I personally think that some people improve their English skills more quickly because "they have a clear goal or purpose in English."
e.g. "I'll get over 600 in the next TOEIC test!!"
"I'll communicate more in English the next time I go abroad!!"
"I'll learn business English and want to use A.S.A.P." etc...
Their point ("By when" "What they want to acheive") is very clear, so their motivation is always high.
That's the reason why they can improve their English skills more quickly!!
If you don't have any clear goals or purposes, I recommend one like this:
"I want to watch my favorite English movie in 3 months without subtitle!"
You can set up any goals you want!
The point is "Set a goal and practice until you get there!!"
