先日スクリッティ ポリッティの「cupid & psyche 85」のレコードを久々に聴きました。とても大好きなアルバムです。
このアルバムはポップソングの金字塔だと思います。
そのアルバムを聴いているうちにびっくりしたのは、自分の耳の解像度がものすごく上がっていたことです。
細かい裏の音まで聴こえます。以前はボーカルを主体とした真ん中の部分のみ聴いていましたし、そこしか耳に入りませんでした。そんな自分の耳に驚きました。ここ最近集中して音楽を作っているおかげでしょう。
そのうちにこのアルバムを作った人たちの熱意が伝わってきました。男気といっていいかもしれません。グリーンのかすれたようなヴォーカルは、しっかりと声を張り上げているし、細かく素晴らしい音の数々が妥協のない位置にちりばめられています。
そしてレコードというメディアは、とても面倒くさいものです。音楽を聴こうと思ったら、大きなレコードを取り出し、ステレオに電源を入れ、プレーヤーにレコードをのせ、針を置いてようやく音が流れます。
しかしCDだと好きな曲にスキップするのですが、レコードはたいてい最後までアルバムを聴いてしまいます。面倒がかかることによって好きでない曲も合わせてアルバムを一枚丸ごと味わえるのです。
あまり好きでない曲を聴くということはとても勉強になります。それはその曲のどこがおもしろいか聴きながら考えるからです。好きな曲だとそこまで深く聴けないこともあるのですが、あまり好きでないとその曲のおもしろさを深く探すのです。
そして自分の好きな音楽が広がっていくのです。
