Repair shops can’t wait for you to break your Galaxy S8

2017-05-15 13:47:00 | Samsung Galaxy S8

It’s not a question of if the Galaxy S8’s screen will break, but more of when it will break. Various tests have shown that the Galaxy S8 can’t handle accidental drops that many other asus parts can, which means you either have to use protective gear with your phone, shell out extra cash for insurance, or put some money aside for the inevitable accident that will ruin your Galaxy S8’s display. The good news is the Galaxy S8’s screen is cheaper to replace than you’d expect, and that’s why repair shops can’t wait for you to break your phone.

According to a report from Motherboard, third-party smartphone repairs shops are thrilled to hear the Galaxy S8’s display will easily break, and they’re preparing accordingly. “The price point is good, the repairability is there,” Fruit Fixed smartphone repair shop owner Justin Carroll told the tech site. “Durability-wise, it’s definitely going to break, no question about that.”

“We had a call within 24 hours of the phone being released,” Carroll added. “But we’re going to consistently see them in our shops within a month, I’d say.”

The replacement displays are relatively easy to procure, and they’re more affordable than Galaxy S7 parts, the report notes.

The screens cost just over $200 in China, which is between $50 and $100 cheaper than Galaxy S7 screens had cost at launch. Caroll said that the goal of repair shops is to reduce the price of a display replacement below $200, which is the price that most blackberry parts insurance deductibles run.

Even though the Galaxy S8 might be cheaper to repair, $200 is still a lot of money. On top of that, there’s no guarantee that you won’t drop the phone again after you repair it, which will require additional repair jobs.

That said, you should know that the price of replacement screen could go down even further, especially for counterfeit screens that do not originate directly from Samsung’s suppliers. Finally, the arrival of the OLED iPhone could further reduce the price of replacement screens, thanks to economics of scale.

Meizu PRO 7 source code leaked

2017-05-13 11:00:05 | Samsung Galaxy S8

Meizu PRO 7 leaks have been fairly prominent this year, which gives us little doubt that the phone is being primed for a launch sometime soon. The latest piece of info-in-advance comes from peeking into source code files related to the blackberry replacement parts . It was discovered that the PRO 7 will be powered by the MediaTek Helio X30 processor, to the detriment of anyone expecting a Qualcomm chip to run the house.

Pictured - the Meizu PRO 6.

Then again, Meizu and Big Q have poor relations, while Samsung is unable to sell Exynos chips to interested customers due to a clause. So we're betting on a MediaTek chip for the PRO 7, just like the PRO 6 was powered by the Helio X25.

Once again, the new Meizu flagship is suggested to be a dual-camera device. The leaked code references IMX386 and IMX286 image sensors by Sony, alongside a 16MP front cam driven by the Samsung S5K368 sensor. Another interesting feature, a Dual Display, gets mentioned in the leak. It could refer to a secondary "ticker" screen like that on LG's V-series phones, or an 'Always-on' type of thing. The PRO 7 will very likely have an AMOLED display, making the latter perfectly possible. The final assumption is implying a dual curved edge display, which the handset will probably have.

Overall, the Meizu PRO 7 doesn't sound like a technological grand slam (those MediaTek SoCs... they simply aren't Qualcomm and Samsung chips), but it could turn out to be among the better Chinese high-end phones this year. The company has honed its design chops and its Flyme OS user experience is becoming increasingly polished, so all that hardware isn't going into a stinker of a zte parts .

Microsoft makes Windows play nice with Android and iPhone

2017-05-12 11:51:57 | Samsung Galaxy S8
Many tech companies just don't get it. They build tools and features that sound amazing, but only if you use them in a tightly controlled way.

For example, Apple's built useful features into its MacOS computer software, making it easy to copy text on one computer and paste it using your blackberry replacement parts . Or to unlock your laptop using your Apple Watch. But if you have a phone powered by Google's Android software, or a Windows PC in the mix, things aren't so easy.

Microsoft hopes to fix all that with a new update to its Windows software for PCs called The Fall Creators Update, which was announced Thursday at the company's Build developer's conference in Seattle.

The most ambitious new feature is one that breaks down those very barriers many companies put up to keep you buying their products. For example, if you begin work on a presentation on your PC, your phone will ask if you want to continue working on it once you're on the go. Copy something off a webpage on your PC, and paste it on an iPhone. You can even save files on one device and pick them up on another.

Called Microsoft Graph, the company describes the idea as an "intelligent fabric that helps connect dots between people, conversations, projects and content within the Microsoft cloud -- ensuring experiences flow seamlessly between Windows, iOS and Android devices."

Before you snidely point out that this is built around Windows, yes, if you're a Mac laptop or desktop user it doesn't appear all these features work for you. But the larger idea of making devices from multiple companies work together is refreshing. It's something Microsoft has been working toward for the past several years.

The system is built around two things: File sharing through Microsoft's OneDrive service, and the company's digital assistant Cortana.

Using those two, Microsoft has built tools like "Timeline," which shows you a list of the websites, files and apps you were working on regardless of the device. If you choose something you'd like to work on, it'll pull that file from Microsoft's OneDrive service and open it.

"For the first time, Windows PCs will love all your devices," said John Belfiore, speaking at the conference.

There's good reason for Microsoft to do this of course. Windows phones remains a virtual nonentity outside the corporate world, so any cross-device-sharing would have to include easy access from Apple iOS and Google Android zte parts and tablets.

Whether these new features will be able to help Microsoft change the way we all use technology is still yet to be seen. But it is a further sign Microsoft wants to help make our devices work together. Well, ideally if you have a Windows PC anyway.

Tip: bypass the new BKR control with this Huawei phone

2017-05-10 13:38:09 | Samsung Galaxy S8
