Galaxy Note 8 renders give clean look at boxier design, Infinity Display

2017-07-24 10:04:02 | Samsung Galaxy S8

After last year's debacle, I think it's safe to say, the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 may be the most hotly anticipated Galaxy Note ever. Whether you wanted to upgrade last year but never got the chance — or worse, upgraded and had to give your Note 7 back — there are many users out there who've been waiting for a new Note more anxiously than in years past. And while we'll have to wait until August to see much of the Note 8's software, we're getting yet another look at its sexy exterior with some new casemaker renders from BGR.

Show it off, babe!

The front of the device matches the Galaxy S8, but we see the new dual-camera setup on the back of the lg parts alongside that rear-mounted — and quite high-up — fingerprint scanner. The ports on the bottom of the phone match the S8, as well, except for that distinctive S Pen slot next to that single speaker grille. These are renderings made by casemakers, so while some details might change, the port placement is more than likely dead on, which will make reaching that fingerprint scanner while using the Note 8 an interesting affair without a gripping aid like a Spigen Style Ring.

We'll have to wait till there's a lg screen replacement in our hands later this summer to see how things shake out, but that waiting game will thankfully be over soon.

Galaxy Note 8 August launch confirmed by top Samsung brass

2017-07-21 10:21:54 | Samsung Galaxy S8

During a media appearance in Taiwan, Koh said that the Galaxy Note 8 lg parts would be revealed in August, according to a report by local news outfit ePrice (H/T SamMobile).

That chimes nicely with recent speculation that the device is set to be launched on August 23 at a special event in New York City, rather than being unveiled at IFA 2017 in September.

In the past, Samsung has debuted its new flagship phablet at the annual IFA trade show in Berlin, but lately, it has opted to stage a standalone Samsung Unpacked event instead.

Koh added that while the device would be announced in August, its global on-sale date wouldn’t come until September, so it could well be that the IFA will still see the Note 8’s official European launch.

There’s a host of rumours surrounding Samsung’s next flagship phablet, with expectation high as the South Korean electronics giant look to put the incendiary Note 7 debacle behind it.

Among other chit-chat, we’re particularly excited about the prospect of the Galaxy S8’s impressive ‘Infinity Display’ coming to the Note 8 lg screen replacement .

This feature could, in turn, lead to a larger display for the Note 8, with a screen of up to 6.4 inches being mooted in some quarters.

Stay tuned, as it looks like the Note 8 is now just weeks away from becoming official – and we’ll continue to cover all the latest news as it happens.

Samsung Strikes Deal With Apple to Manufacture A12 Chips for iPhone: Report

2017-07-20 10:47:43 | Samsung Galaxy S8

After a five-year hiatus, Samsung Electronics will return to manufacturing chips for Apple's new iPhonein 2018, according to a report from the Korea Herald.

Samsung Strikes Deal With Apple to Manufacture A12 Chips for iPhone: Report

The South Korea-based electronic company was a primary producer of iPhone chips until 2013, when Apple awarded its rival Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) exclusive production rights. In 2011, Apple sued Samsung over patent infringement, and the company cut down the number of components it got from its competitor from that time.

The Herald, which relied on unnamed sources, reported that Samsung's chances at producing iPhone chips again picked up in June when Kwon Oh-hyun, one of Samsung's three co-chief executives who is in charge of chips among other things, visited the Apple headquarters in California last month. Samsung announced in March that it would purchase specialised machines, reportedly in an attempt to produce seven-nanometer processors for the Samsung replacement Parts and regain Apple's business.

Sources told the Herald that Samsung's ties to organic light-emitting diodes, an LED used in phones, is what caused Apple to get Samsung back into the mix for processors. Samsung is the world leader in OLED manufacturing, with 95 percent market share, and will probably be the lone OLED supplier for the upcoming iPhone.

TSMC will still play a role in supplying chips for next year's iPhones, according to the Herald. It also said Samsung will share some samsung parts orders next year that "have been monopolized by TSMC." It plans to complete its tests on the new chip-making machines in the near future before seeking Apple's approval.

Samsung had one of its most profitable quarters in company history earlier in the year, with $8.7 billion in operating profit, a 48 percent increase from the previous year. Total revenue for the quarter was $44.5 billion, with the majority of business coming in semiconductor and display divisions. At the time of its announcement, the company also said that demand for chips and memory had increased over the course of the quarter.
