I read the interesting article about Overtourism this morning.
Japan's former capital ,Kyoto , has been dealing with the headaches of overtourism.
One Japanese woman has translated the principles of sportsmanship into the travel world, to promote better manners among tourists.
In other words, she coined the term tourist ship.
She is Chieko Tanaka, moved to Kyoto for education at Kyoto University's Faculty of Economics in 2017.
Since then, overtourism has become a social problem.
She began calling hotels, temples, shopping street organizations and others to ask them for their accounts about the ill effects of tourism.
She received no shortage of responses.
These responses included various incidents and complaints.
She learned a lot from these responses.
Then Tanaka wanted to tackle these problems and formed the organization.
As a result of her efforts, she coined the term “ Touristship”.
Touristship is a traveller version of sportsmanship.
In a word, it is the mindset of travellers who value their travel destinations.
Her book, “TouristShip” was published in 2023.

This is a great concept .
I hope this word, Touristship, will spread more and more.
