People all over the world were happy to hear this news this Sunday.
Hong Kong pro-democracy activist Agnes Chow said,
she has left Hong Kong to study in Canada and has no plans to return.
Chow had to go to mainland China with five police officers in August to get the passport necessary for travel.
She had to write letters of repentance for what she did as well as expressing gratitude to the authorities.
Then Chow began her studies in Toronto in September.
According to an agreement with police, Chow had to report to Hong Kong in December.
But she has decided to remain in Canada for fear of being detained.
Chow wrote on her instagram,
I don’t want to be forced to do what i don’t want to do anymore, I would never return to Hong Kong.
I think Chow’s decision is definitely correct.
However, I wonder why Chinese authorities allowed her to travel to Canada.
According to Sekiheki, China issue expert,
The Chinese government would have expected her asylum.
Rather, they may have hoped her to apply for asylum.
Chow has become a world famous person,so she permanently remains a dangerous person.
The Chinese government probably thought it would be easier to control Hong Kong without Chow.
