We had received a letter from the ward office. It indicated that we would get another 100,000 Yen by the end of January. I didn’t expect it at all. My wife told me that it must be the second part of the government’s stimulus plan for households with children under the age of 18. I thought we would be distributed just 100,000 Yen that we’d got at the end of December. So it was like an unexpected windfall to both of us.
I have no idea the following is an old saying or a common truism.
“When people don’t have enough money on them, people tend to have a pessimistic view of life. However, they soon would be optimistic right after getting a windfall. ”
※Someone who is pessimistic thinks that bad things are going to happen.

区役所から届いた手紙。月末までに10万円の入金があるとのお知らせでした。先月入金があった１０万円でお終いだと思っていたので、まさにこれが”windfall”だという話。
あと、人は経済的に切羽詰まっていると物事を悲観的に見るものだが、ひとたびお金が転がり込むと楽観的に変貌する、ということも。
人によってはたったの１０万。でも今の私にとっては大金。パッと日が差したような気持ちになりました。感謝して使わせていただきます。
雪の日の朝パンクした後輪。タイヤは１０年近く使っていたのでボロボロでした。白いパナレーサーのタイヤに交換しました。アマゾンで２３００円。冬でゴムが硬いということもありますが、かなりキツくて取り付けるのに苦労しました。気のせいかもしれませんが、以前のタイヤより軽いのか速く走れるようになった気がします。
