Machiavellian Diplomacy Is Japan’s Survival Strategy in a World of Double Standards

Geopolitically, the United States is absolutely safe as long as there is no nuclear war.

It is the only perfect capitalist country in the world where war can be turned into a business without shedding blood.

Even Russians, Chinese, and North Koreans would have wanted to be born American.

It's not something I want to imagine, but I suspect that the United States and Western countries might be eager to have Taiwan, South Korea, and Japan fight China, Russia, and North Korea as the vanguard of "freedom and democracy" in the Far East.

For Western European countries, the war in neighboring Ukraine is far too risky.

Compared to that, a war in the Far East would be a distant fire.

Despite such a volatile global situation, Japanese media are behaving strangely.

They treat war like a sports competition, making Japan out to be the Asian representative of the Western nations, which is frightening.

With the "Russian invasion of Ukraine" and "North Korean missile launches," they stir up the conflict as a battle between "freedom-loving democratic Western countries" and "autocratic states," much like the ancient "Greek vs. Persian wars," turning it into a Hollywood movie-level anachronism.

It's perplexing that the United States, where even the Capitol was stormed, is considered a beacon of freedom and democracy.

Apparently, such actions are tolerated in America.

The same seems to be true for Israel.

It's a prime example of double standards.

Let's proceed.

Considering that a missile from North Korea could reach Japan in less than ten minutes, what can we do?

Given the speed and accuracy of current missiles, Japan is at the front line no matter where we are.

Despite being on the front line, the entire population, except for the prime minister and his entourage, has no place to hide or escape.

If Japanese people want to survive, they would have to move the entire nation underground and become subterranean dwellers; otherwise, there's no way to protect themselves.

At the beginning of the Russia-Ukraine conflict, the media suggested that the poorly motivated and weak Russian army would be crushed by the patriotic Ukrainian army with Western support.

However, there are no signs of the Russian army retreating.

Moreover, there are no signs that Russia, supposedly crippled by Western economic sanctions, is going to unconditionally surrender to the West out of fear of Ukraine’s fierce attacks.

If we look at the current world situation objectively and remain neutral, not only Russia and Ukraine but also European countries are in a desperate situation.

The only one probably chuckling to themselves is the United States.

Geopolitically, the United States is absolutely safe as long as there is no nuclear war.

It is the only perfect capitalist country in the world where war can be turned into a business without shedding blood.

Ukrainians, Russians, Chinese, and North Koreans might wish they were born in America.

I thought so too when I studied in America.

The United States has vast resources, extensive land, and a comfortable climate.

Geopolitically, it is heaven, far removed from the conflict-ridden Eurasian and African continents.

Compared to such an America, Japan is in a desperate position even among Western countries.

Japan is, like Ukraine, on the front line of the Western bloc.

Moreover, while Ukraine faces Russia alone, Japan must contend not only with Russia but also with the aggressive North Korea and potentially China, depending on the stance of its ally, America.

Japan might be expected to fight Russia, China, and North Korea simultaneously, possibly for the sake of Taiwan and South Korea.

At this point, Japan is set to become the second sacrificial lamb, after Ukraine, in defense of "freedom and democracy" for the Western world.

For those brave Japanese who value "freedom and democracy" above their lives, this might be the highest honor.

Japanese might be remembered as the honorable people who defended the Western world from the invasion of autocratic states with their blood, much like the world of "The Lord of the Rings."

If Japan intervenes in a Taiwan contingency, it would disappear from world history.

Other countries would likely welcome the disappearance of a serious and troublesome competitor.

That's capitalism.

While we can still say "no way" to such scenarios, we must act before it's too late.

In a world where the law of the jungle prevails, Japan might need a Machiavellian diplomacy, using double or even triple standards, to survive.
