A Time for Change: Rethinking Human Population Growth to Embrace Ecological Balance

Now may be the time for humanity to fundamentally change the way we live.

Thanks to advancements in medicine and science, our population has exceeded 8 billion.

However, should we continue to increase our numbers on this limited planet within its fragile ecosystem?

In Japan, the declining birthrate and aging population have led to widespread indifference toward population growth.

Yet, on a global scale, the issue of population may require immediate attention.

Everyone is likely aware, at some level, of the limitations on the number of people who can live comfortably in our environment.

The desire to reproduce is a biological instinct, but for humanity, the time has come to reconsider this instinct and adapt our way of life.

The COVID-19 pandemic may have served as a wake-up call.

There are natural limits to how many individuals can live prosperously and without hardship in this finite ecosystem.

It may soon be time to scientifically determine the “appropriate population size for humanity” and create a world free from inequality, hunger, futile competition, and pointless conflict.

Before people today perish due to war, pandemics, or choose to end their lives through meaningless survival struggles, we should take it upon ourselves to gradually and thoughtfully control population growth.

By doing so, we might transform this planet into a “paradise for humanity.”

Perhaps we have arrived at a moment when we should aim for ecological harmony on a planetary level.
