英語レッスン at Figaro

おはようございます。英語講師のarataです。

昨日はいつもお世話になっております"Figaro H-14原宿・ダーツカフェ"にてレッスンを行ってきました。

今回のレッスン内容は“質問文の作り方”
単純ですが、意外に“自分の聞きたい質問文を作る”ことは思ったよりも難しいものです。

それでも自分の生徒さんたちはレッスン内（９０分）で試行錯誤しながらも、しっかりとした意味がしっかり通る質問文を作っておりました。また、質問に対する答えも自分の言葉でしっかりと答えていました。

自分の生徒さんたちが進歩しているのを見ることは、やはり英語講師として嬉しいと同時に“教えていてやっていてよかったなぁ”と素直に思える瞬間です。

さらに生徒の方々には歩みを止めることなく、進歩していってもらいたいと思います！！
（もちろん、進歩のためのサポートは惜しみません！！一緒にがんばりましょう！！）


さて、いつもお世話になっている"Figaro H-14原宿・ダーツカフェ"ではレッスン後、食事をとることも可能です。

おすすめはいろいろあるのですが、自分のおすすめは中でも“Figaro特製タコライス！！”

特徴として、ソースがサルサ・シーザー・ナッツの３種類から選ぶことができます。

昨日のチョイスはサルサ＆ナッツ！！

少しのナッツの甘さとピリッとしたトマトがマッチした一品です！！

おいしくいただきました、ごちそうさまでした。
次回は写真を撮ってきます。

いつもお世話になっているFigaro H-14原宿のスタッフの方々、ならびにいつも自分のレッスンを受講してくれている生徒の方々にはとても感謝しています。

Good morning, everyone.
I had a private English lesson at Figaro H-14 in Harajuku yesterday.
The content of the lesson was about "How to form Question sentences"
It seems easy, but it's pretty difficult if you want to make questions which you really mean to ask.
However, my students were trying their best to make questions and answer properly in the lesson.
When I find my students are improving their English skills, I'm honestly glad that I'm an English teacher.
I hope all of my students try to improve their English skills even little by little!!
(Of course, I'll try my best to support each and every one of you!!)
By the way, at Figaro H-14 in Harajuku, it's possible to have a meal after lesson.
It's difficult to say, but I recommend their "Taco rice".
You can choose from 3 sources - Salsa, Nuts, Caesar.
I tried 2 sources - Salsa & Nuts yesterday, which was really tasty!!
I'd like to say "thank you" to staff members at Figaro and also my students who always help me a lot!!
I'll always be positive and take a step forward!!

英語講師の留学経験（出発編）

おはようございます。英語講師のarataです。

最近は起業セミナーのことや英語習得方法のことをメインに書いていましたので、
本日は自分の“英語の原点”と言える“留学経験”を思い出して書いてみたいと思います。

実は私、２度カナダで長期滞在していました。

１度目は２００３年～２００５年の２年間、英語習得のため。（目標はＴＯＥＩＣ９００点でした）

２度目は２００８年の１年間、英語ティーチングの技術（ＴＥＳＬ/英語教授法）の習得＋現地の語学学校の経営を勉強するため。

２度の留学とも、カナダ１の大都市・トロントでした。

カナダ１の大都市と言っても、東京に比べると良い意味でとてものんびりしています。
（それでも友達のカナディアンに言わせると、他のカナダの都市（バンクーバーやモントリオール）に比べると、トロントは忙しい街だそうですが・・・）

さて、そのトロントでの最初（２００３年～２００５年）の留学は貴重な経験の連続でした。今、思い返しても楽しい思い出ばかりです。

が、しかし、船出は大変でした・・・

まず、日本国内で航空券の予約した旅行会社が倒産してしまい、片道（１枚のチケット）なのに往復（２枚分のチケット）の料金を支払うはめに・・・

どうにかトロントに深夜到着したものの、予約していたトロントのホテルの予約が入っておらず、日本でもホテル代を払っていたのに、現地でも支払い、２度払うことに・・・

実はその当時の私の英語力＝コミュニケーション力はほとんど“なし”でした。また、究極のシャイな性格も災いし、英語での交渉などもってのほかという状況でした。（当時のＴＯＥＩＣスコアは５５５点でしたが、正直なところ、点数ほど実力はありませんでした）

初日からこんな調子で今後どうなることやら・・・という留学生活の始まりでした。

それでも留学前に自分自身に課した“帰国までにＴＯＥＩＣ９００点取得！！”という決意だけは留学終了まで揺らぎませんでした。

How is everything?
I've written about the seminar and how to improve English ability recently.
Therefore, today, I'd like to write about my experience in Canada.
I've stayed in Toronto, Canada twice in my entire life.
The first stay was from 2003 to 2005 to acquire English skills and my goal was to get at least TOEIC 900.
The second time was in 2008 to get TESL (Teaching English as a Second Language) diploma and improve my teaching skills.
Also, I wanted to learn how to manage an ESL school in Toronto.
Toronto, in a good way, is very relaxing place even though it's the biggest city in the country.
The first stay in Toronto from 2003 to 2005 was a very precious experience for me.
However, at the beginning, I had a couple of trouble...for example...
I bought an airplane tickect from a travel agency which went bankrupt after I paid but I couldn't receive my ticket.So, I had to buy another ticket.
I was able to arrive in Toronto at midnight and checked in a hotel, but the staff said that they didn't have my reservation even though I paid for the hotel in Japan, so, I had to pay twice...
At that time, my TOEIC score was 555, which is not considered too bad. However, I was very shy and couldn't speak even one word in English at all...
I was really worried about what was going to happen in my life in Canada.
Nonetheless, my goal, "I'll get at least TOEIC 900 before I go back", was not changed from the beginning to the end!!

起業セミナー（お金について）

おはようございます。英語講師のarataです。

昨日は起業セミナーに参加し、“お金”のことを中心に学んできました。

・どのような金融機関が利用可能なのか
・いくらまで借りることができるのか
・特別な金利で借りることのできる方法　など

また、創業者のためのコンサルティングサービス等が利用可能ということも知ることができ、とても心強く思えました！！

今後、いろいろな人・会社の力をお借りすることになると思いますが、すべてのことを前向きに捉え、“生徒の事を第一に考えたユニークでオンリーワンの英語学校”の設立を目指します！！

今日一日も前向きに楽しく前進です！！

The weather is unpredictable, but I hope you are enjoyoing your life.
In last night's seminar, I learned about "money".
・Which bank I can ask for money for launching business
・How much money I can borrow
・Several ways to get good interest rates etc...
I was also able to know some services available for people who have just started their business, which made me feel at ease.
In the future, I'm certain that I will need other people's cooperation (with my family and friends) & other companies' help.
I'll always thank them and see things in a positive way!!
All I can do is to take a step forward!!

ビジネスプラン作成（起業セミナー）

おはようございます。英語講師のarataです。

現在、起業セミナーに参加しており、そろそろこのセミナーも中盤に差し掛かってきます。

中盤～終盤にかけてこのセミナーでは、それぞれのビジネスプランについて発表する機会があります。
（他の参加者の方たちのビジネスプランを聞けるのが楽しみです！）

講師の竹内先生、他の参加者の方や周囲の方々の知恵・お力・意見等をしっかり聞き、取り入れながら“ユニークでオンリーワンの英語学校設立プラン”をこの１ヶ月でしっかり考え→練り上げ→行動に移します！！

“意志あるところに道は通ず”です！！

本日もビジネスプランならびにレッスンプラン作成、セミナー参加等、前向きに前進です！！

The seminar I'm attending right now is in the middle of its schedule and I'll have an opportunity to present my business plan soon.
(Actually, I'm looking forward to hearing other attendees' business plans.)
I'll listen to other people's opinions and ideas including the lecturer, Mr. Takeuchi's, other attendees', my current students and my family members.
Then, I'll put their opinions and ideas into my business plan in order to set up "Unique & Only one" English school !!
I only have 1 month to prepare for my business plan, but I believe that
"Where there is a will, there is a way"
All I need to do is to take a step forward!!

英語学習法 （ＴＯＥＩＣの点数アップ！リスニング強化！！）

おはようございます。英語講師のarataです。

昨日のブログにおいて、“どうすれば英語が話せるようになるのか！？”という質問に対するアドバイスをさせていただきましたが、本日は“ＴＯＥＩＣの点数アップ”（- 特にリスニングのスコアが３００点以下の方向け）に対する私なりのアドバイスをさせていただきます。

一般的にリスニング３００点以下の方は主に、単語のみ聞くことに集中してしまいがちの傾向があります。

これに対する対処の仕方としては“文の全体を聞く”という一言に尽きます。

ＴＯＥＩＣテストでは“全体の文を聞き、理解する”ことがとても重要です。

この“全体の文を聞き、理解する”ということに対するトレーニングとして、私は以下のことをおすすめしています。（ＴＯＥＩＣの問題集を用意、スクリプトのあるもの）

１．問題文（１文）を聞く
２．１文聞き終わったら、ＣＤを一時停止する
３．ノートにたった今、聞いた１文を書く　もしくは　口でその文をリピートする
４．書き取った文もしくは口でリピートした文をスクリプトと照らし合わせる
５．書き取れなかった文、リピートできなかった単語もしくは文をノートに書き留める

こつこつと毎日、このトレーニングをすることで確実に“単語でなく、文で聞ける耳を作る”ことができます。

まずは３日続けてみましょう！！

Good morning!
Yesterday, I answered the question about "How to study English to speak English".
Today, I also want to continue answering another question about "How to get a higher score in the TOEIC test, especially Listening".
Generally, it is said that people who have less than 300 points tend to focus on listening to each word, not comprehension.
Actually, this "comprehension" is the key to get a good score in the Listening section.
If you are interested in getting a good score, please check "How-to-train your listening" below.
*You need an TOEIC test which has a listening script.
1. Listen to a sentence
2. After listening to a sentence, pause
3. Take a note what you've just heard OR Read out loud what you've just heard
4. Check with the script
5. If not correct, write down the sentence in your notebook
With this training every day, I'm sure you'll have a wonderful listening skills!

英語学習法 （どうすれば話せるようになるのか！？）

おはようございます。英語講師のarataです。

英語講師として、しばしば“英語学習法”について聞かれることがあります。

“ＴＯＥＩＣの点数アップの方法”や“どうすれば話せるようになるのか？”という質問が比較的多い印象があります。

さて、今日は“どうすれば話せるようになるのか？”という質問に対する答えを紹介していきます。

“話せる”ということは“文章を作れる”ということです。
“文章を作れる”ということは“単語を並べられる”ということです。
“単語を並べられる”ということは“単語を知っており、それに必要なルール（文法）を知っている”ということになります。

これを総合していきますと、単語の意味のみを暗記するような学習法（自分の大学受験時に推奨されていた方法）は英語を“話す”ということを念頭に置いた場合、もったいない学習法だと個人的には思います。

単語を学ぶのであれば、文章で学ぶべきです！！

具体的には、まず“日→英通訳法”で英語を学ぶことを英語講師としておすすめします。

１．まずは英単語の本を選びます。（ＣＤのついているもの・一つ一つの単語に沿う文章が一文ずつあること）

２．毎日１文でよいので日本語を読んだ後、英訳する。その際、音読すること。（自分の発音のチェックにもなります。また、不安な発音はＣＤで確認）

３．これを毎日、忙しくても最低でも１文続けること。（できれば１０文）

“継続は力なり”です！！

I am often asked some questions regarding "How to study English by oneself to speak English."
There are a lot of questions, but especially, the following questions are mainly asked:
"How can I get a higher TOEIC score?"
"What should I do to speak English?"
When I'm asked this question "What should I do to speak English?", I answer like this...
"Being able to speak English means Being able to make sentences."
"Being able to make sentences means Being able to put vocabulary in order."
"Being able to put vocabulary in order means You know vocabulary and basic rules = grammar."
Therefore, I recommned not memorizing only vocabulary but making sentences.
e.g.
1. Choose an English vocabulary book which is with CD and also lots of sentences.
2. After reading one Japanese sentence, translate it into English. At the same time, Read out loud!!
3. Continue this every day.
"You can improve more than you think if you keep practicing!!"

店舗見学（起業セミナー）

おはようございます。英語講師のarataです。

昨日、セミナーの一環で川崎市の元住吉にあるブレーメン通り＋向ヶ丘遊園にある登戸東商店街の店舗を見学してきました。

どちらの通りも初めての訪問でしたが、ブレーメン通りは横浜・元町のような賑わいがありました。

ブレーメン通りでは２つの店舗（パン屋・婦人服の店）を、登戸東商店街では手作りビールを提供する店を見学後、その店主の方々のお話を伺うことができました。

創業までの道のり、出店場所の決定までの経緯、資金の調達方法、開業後の嬉しかったこと・つらかったこと、現実の問題点など多岐にわたりました。

以前は“客”としての視点で店舗を見ることしかできませんでしたが、今回の訪問によって、起業・経営に関してまったく違う視点から学ぶことができました。

現実的に起業・経営はいろいろ苦労があり大変かもしれませんが、個人的には今回の訪問でますます自分の英語学校の設立・起業に挑戦してみたくなりました！！

“成せばなる！！”と自分を信じ、周囲の方々の感謝を忘れず一歩ずつ前進です！！

How are you enjoying this weekend?
I went to see several shops in Kawasaki yesterday.
It was my first time to visit "Bremen street" in Motosumiyoshi & "Noborito-Higashi street" in Mukogaokayuen.
There were a lot of people rambling around and shopping on Bremen street .
It was like "Motomachi street" in Yokohama.
I saw 2 shops (bakery & clothes shop) in Bremen street and a brewery / bar in Noborito-higashi street.
I also had an opportunity to listen to the shop owners' stories, such as "Why they started their own business, What was the main reason why they decided their location of their shops, How they got money to launch their business and so on..."
Before I went on this shop-observing tour, I only had a view as a consumer, but this opportunity gave me to see things as an owner's view.
I can imagine some hard time after launching my own bisiness. However, I'd like to challenge to set up my own English school!!
"We can do anything we wish if we put our minds to it!!"

講師がレッスンから学ぶこと

おはようございます。英語講師のarataです。

一週間ほど前、このブログで少し書いた海外旅行へ行っていた二人の生徒が無事に帰国しました。

昨日、このお二人とレッスンがあり、早速英語で楽しく今回の旅行について話してくれました。

・タクシーでのスモールトーク
・シンガポール英語のリスニングが難しかったこと
・"Please"の間違った使い方で、赤の他人（シンガポール人）と一緒に写真を撮ったこと
・ツアーのガイドさんのジョークが面白かったこと
・レストランでのやりとり　　　etc...

一つ一つの話が生徒の方たちが経験したリアルな話でとても興味深く、物価・宗教・文化の違いなど講師の私が学ぶ部分が多かったです。

お聞きしたお話を今後のレッスンで存分に活かしていきます！！

いつもレッスンを受講してくれている生徒の皆様、またサポートしてくれている方々、ありがとうございます！！

今日も何か新しいことを学び、一歩前進です！！

How are you doing?
About a week ago, The two students I mentioned in this blog came back to Japan from their trip to Singapore.
I just had a lesson with them yesterday and had a chance to talk about their trip.
The contents of their experience were...
・Small talk with a taxi driver
・Listening to Singaporian-English was tough
・Misuse of "Please"
・A tour guide's jokes were funny
・At a restaurant etc...
All the stories were real and fascinating. So, actually, I learned a lot about the differences between Japanese culture and Singapore culture.
I'm sure to take thier experience into my lesson!
I'll take another step forward for my dream!!

英語学校設立に向けてのＴＯＥＩＣレッスン

おはようございます。英語講師のarataです。

現在、個人的にカフェ等で楽しく英語を教えています。

ＴＯＥＩＣや、会話、文法中心、海外旅行会話等、一人、一人の目的は様々です。

一回、一回すべてのレッスンはオリジナルに構成しており、どのレッスンでも“コミュニケーション”を目的にしております。

例えば、ＴＯＥＩＣのリスニングのレッスンでも“話す”時間を部分的にでも絶対に取り入れています。

英語はあくまでも“コミュニケーション手段の一つ”と考ているからです。

もちろん、ＴＯＥＩＣにおいて良い点数を取ることは必須です。

ただし、実際、多くの企業が求めていることは“ＴＯＥＩＣの点数”ではなく、“ＴＯＥＩＣの点数を取れる実力＝英語力”なのだと思います。

自分の英語学校のＴＯＥＩＣのレッスンにおいては、この英語力を伸ばし点数が取れるようなレッスンを行い、しっかりと結果を残していきたいと思っています！！

“ユニーク”かつ“オンリーワン”の英語学校設立へのステップです！！

How are you doing?
Currently, I'm teaching TOEIC, Conversation, English Grammar, Travel Conversation and so on because each student has different purpose and goal.
My lesson is original and its purpose is to communicate in English!!
Even in a TOEIC-listening lesson, I take some time to speak English.
In my personal opinion, "English is for communication."
Needless to say, it's important to get a higher score in TOEIC. However, it's also important to communicate in English due to the fact that almost all the companies in Japan expect people to use thier English ability.
In my school, I'll try to help my students to acquire excellent English ability in order to get good TOEIC score.
"Every day is a day to take a step forward!!"

ＰＫ失敗から学ぶこと

おはようございます。英語講師のarataです。

残念ながらサッカー日本代表はＰＫで敗れてしまいましたが、ある選手は言いました。

“ＰＫを外すことのできるのは、ＰＫを蹴る勇気を持った者だけだ”

単純に聞こえますが、これは何事にも通じることだと思います。

個人的な意見として結局、“何事も挑戦しなければ結果はわからない”ということだと思います。

もちろん、英語学校設立・起業において“失敗”したくないという気持ちは大きいのですが、それよりも単純に失敗という“結果”を恐れず、あくまでも挑戦者としてできる限りのことをすれば良い結果は自ずとついてくると信じています。

できる限りのことを毎日、前向きに取り組んでいきます！！

（ブログを始めて一週間を迎えることができました。これも貴重な時間を割いてこのブログを読んでくれている方々のおかげだと思っています。ありがとうございます。これからもますますがんばります！！）

I'm sorry that Japan lost against Paraguay in the FIFA world cup soccer match.
As one player said "Someone who can miss the penalty-kick shootout is someone who has the courage to try the penalty-kick shootout"
This sounds great because for me this is like "If you don't try, you'll never know the results"
Of course I don't want to make my future business go bankrupt.
However, I never know what the consequence will be unless I try!!
So, what I can do is just "TRY / CHALLENGE"
I don't need to be afraid of failure, just I need to do the best I can!!
"Be positive and everything will be fine!!"
