MediaTek, Qualcomm now support Android Oreo (Go Edition)

MediaTek, in a statement, said that it has worked with Google to optimise its chipset for Android Oreo Go Edition. This would help the iPhone screen replacement manufacturers to provide the latest Android experience at an affordable price tag for a device with 512MB to 1GB of memory. The company says that its MT6739, MT6737 and MT6580, among others, are now optimized for Android Oreo (Go Edition). MediaTek further claims that smartphones powered by MediaTek and running on the latest Android version will be available in the worldwide market by Q1, 2018.

Qualcomm, on the other hand, has also announced the support Android Ore (Go Edition). The brand says that it is working with Google “to enable next wave of value-priced iPhone screen with a focus on speed and reliability”. Further, the brand asserted that mid and low-tier Qualcomm Snapdragon mobile platforms will be ready to be used by device manufacturers shortly after the latest version of Android is released to the Android Open Source Project. Android Oreo (Go edition) is expected to be available running on devices based on Snapdragon mobile platforms in early 2018.

To recall, Google has officially announced its ambitious Android Oreo (Go edition) at an event in New Delhi. The Go edition was first announced at Google I/O 2017 and it meant for low-end devices that run with 512MB to 1GB of memory. The aim is to provide the latest Android updates to the masses and it will be available as a part of Android 8.1 release.
