G31 Any questions?

スティーブ(米)
わしが非常に苦手とする"Making a presentation"がテーマ。
わしはプレッシャーに弱くあがり症なので、人前で何かするのは大の苦手である。

テキストにはほとんど触れなかったので、Main Languageは割愛します。
最近世の中を騒がせているニュースを何点か挙げていき、
その報道に使われそうな単語をformalなものとinformalなものを考える。
たとえば、皇室典範問題だったら、
descendant → children
BSE問題だったら、
restrict → not allow
などなど。

後半はVoiceルームへ連行され、
テレビのニュース番組を想定したロールプレイ。
最初にリポーターが現地からニュースを伝え、
ディレクターがその内容をアンカーマンに説明し、
最終的にスタジオからアンカーマンがニュースを読む。
アンカーマンはVoiceルームの外に出されて、リポーターが何を言ったかを聞くことができない。
しょっぱなに自分はアンカーマンをやらされた。
何のニュースだったっけ？今となっては覚えていない。
もう死にそう……。

G45 Who would you trust

つかみは"Who would you trust to take money out of bank for you?"
あれ？暮れに同じ講師で同じところやったな……。
coworker, rep at the local bank, neighborhood kid, neighbor, aunt
の中から選んで、なぜその人が信用できるかを説明せよというもの。

Main Language
Expressing opinions about people's reliability:
I have faith in ... because ...
I think we should go with ... as ...
You can always depend on ... to ...
Perhaps ... is better suited for the job because ...
I'd feel better if ... took care of ...
I'm apprehensive about having ... because ...
I have my doubts about ... as ...

Declining someone's offer of help:
That's very kind of you, but ...
Actually, I was hoping to get ... to ...
... has already offered to help, but thanks for asking.
Really, I don't want to put you through all the trouble.
I know you have more experience,

but I thought it would be a good opportunity for ... to ...

Please don't take this wrong way, but ...

そのあと、どのような職業の人が信用できるか？という話題になった。
ホリエモンが槍玉にあがった。
講師陣の間でもホリエモンは有名なようだった。

最後は、休暇の間仕事の代役を立候補してくれた人を断るロールプレイング。
せっかくの申し出を上記の表現を駆使して断っていくのは、ちょっと面白かった。
