Dali Well, I’ll give you a clue. None of them were real people. We often imagine American coinage always having famous American politicians or presidents, but this is very recent―from 1909. Before 1909, surprisingly, we never had actual persons on our coins.

Dali On the dime, many versions of Lady Liberty appeared before Franklin Roosevelt. These include Draped Bust (1796-1807), Capped Bust (1809-1837), Seated Liberty (1837-1891), and Barber (1892-1916). Finally, on the dime only, the Roman god Mercury appeared from 1916 to 1945.

Dali has a deep knowledge of old American coinage. He enthusiastically told me about old American coinage, especially silver coins. At first, I had no interest in old silver coins. Still, while looking at many old US silver coins, I quickly became fascinated by their beauty. The estimated worth of the 1927 S mint condition Standing Liberty Quarter is $5,100-$7,800. Surprised by the high prices of some such old coins on eBay or Yahoo auction sites, I realized how popular American old coins are all over the world. I think I have found my new hobby!
