Indices to scientific and vernacular names in Systematics of Mollusca in Japan - Bivalvia/Scaphopoda by Tadashige Habe (1977)

Keen (1937) is a check list and bibliography with a table of midpoints-of-range of West North America species of marine Mollusca and a median of the midpoints-of-range of any shore-collection is said to be a sensitive index measure for comparing a collection with other. After the World War II, Lt. Col. Hubert Gregory Schenck, Chief of the Natural Resources Section, General Headquarters, Supreme Commander for the Allied Powers, asked Tokubei Kuroda and Tadashige Habe, both of Kyoto University, to prepare an inventory of Japanese Recent marine shell-bearing mollusks and their biogeographical range. It was published by Leo W. Stach as Check List and Bibliography of the Recent Marine Mollusca of Japan written by Kuroda & Habe (1952).
During the preparation of the check list, Kuroda and Habe issued a number of revisions to bivlave genera and families in Kuroda (ed., 1949-1955), Habe (1949-1950) and Habe (1951-1953). Habe finally compiled them in the book Systematics of Mollusca in Japan - Bivalvia/Scaphopoda (Habe, 1977) and chiefly followed the systematic arrangement of Cox et al. (1969, 1971) with some modification. Although Habe (1977) was written in Japanese and more than 40 years have already passed since the book was issued, it is still one of the most important comprehensive textbooks of bivalve taxonomy of the Indo-West Pacific. The book was out of print until quite recently, however, a facsimile reproduction of the book was published by Hokuryukan-New Science Publishing Co., Tokyo in August 2011. The fourth corrigenda of Hebe (1977) was published in a special issue of Hitachiobi (the Reports of the Tokyo Malacological Society) by the present author (Matsukuma, 2012).
Although the book has indices to generic names and Japanese vernacular names of species, there were no indices to species-group names and those higher than generic-group names. A comprehensive taxonomic index to Habe (1977) may be useful for investigators and students in Japan and foreign countries who use the book. A comprehensive Errata of Habe (1977) is in process of preparation separately, therefore, the corrected spelling of scientific names are adopted in this index.

LEGEND

Names in boldface refer to new taxa proposed in Habe (1977). Example: Melaxinaeinae
Numbers in boldface refer to the main page if the same scientific name appears in two or more pages. Example: 248, pl. 52, f. 3, 251
