国民宿舎・海峡ビューしものせきから見た関門橋
部屋からも大浴場からも関門海峡を眺めることができ、料理もおいしく、国民宿舎とは思えないレベルでした～
（火の山ロープウェイ乗り場から徒歩4分）

You can enjoy the magnificent view of the Kanmon Strait from both the room and  the public bath.  Also the food is so delicious that  you will not believe it is a Public Lodging, an in expensive hotel operated by a local government.
(It is a four-minute walk from the Hino-yama Ropeway stop.)

火の山公園/ Mt. Hino-yama Park
標高268m。関門橋はもちろん、瀬戸内海から日本海まで見渡せる下関の絶景スポット。ソメイヨシノやヤマザクラなど、桜の名所としても有名。
山頂へは、自動車専用道路の火の山パークウェイ（無料）か火の山ロープウェイ（大人往復520円）で行くことができます。

The park is located at an altitude of 268 m and is a scenic spot in Shimonoseki　with a vew from the Seto Inland Sea to the Sea of Japan. It is also famous for cherry blossoms such as Somei-yoshino and Yama-zakura.
The summit can be reached by motorway called Hino-yama Parkway (free) or Hino-yama ropeway (520 yen round trip for adults).

火の山公園からは、関門海峡が一望できます。奈良・平安時代の頃から、多くの船が、日本海からこの狭い海峡を通って瀬戸内海に出て、奈良・京都・大阪に向かって進んで行ったのかっと思うと、感慨深いです。

Mt. Hino-yama Park overlooks the Kanmon Strait. It is deeply moving to think that from the ancient Nara and Heian periods, many ships came from the Sea of Japan, passed through this narrow strait to the Seto Inland Sea, headed for Nara, Kyoto and Osaka.

火の山は、日本海から瀬戸内海まで広く見渡すことができます。平安時代にはのろし場があり、室町時代には火山城（ヒノヤマジョウ）が築かれていたとのことです。
明治時代になると、関門地帯は、東京湾・大阪湾に次ぐ軍事上重要な日本３大要塞の一つと捉えられ、砲台や堡塁が築かれました。
火の山は、昔から、軍事的にとても重要な場所であったことがわかります。

Mt. Hino-yama has a wide view from the Sea of Japan to the Seto Inland Sea.
In the Heian period, there was a beacon, and in the Muromachi period, Hino-yama Castle was built.
In the Meiji period, the Kanmon area was regarded as one of Japan's three major military fortifications after Tokyo Bay and Osaka Bay, and gun batteries and fortifications were built there. 
You can see that Mt. Hino-yama used to be in a very important place militarily  for a long time.
