イタリア旅行３ ローマ３ フォロ・ロマーノ Roman Forum, Italy

フォロ・ロマーノは長方形の広場で、古代ローマの中枢だった場所。古代の政府の建物などの遺跡がたくさん！
紀元前６世紀にはすでに建設が開始されたとのことのことです。（Foro=フォロ＝公共広場）

共和政時代の紀元前1世紀ごろ、ユリアス・カエサルの指揮のもとにフォロ・ロマーノの本格的な整備が始められるが暗殺され(44BC)、ローマ帝国初代皇帝アウグストゥスに引き継がれ（27BC-14AD)、世界に誇る都に生まれ変わったということです。

14～16世紀のルネッサンス期には、建材の大理石が持ち出されたとのことで、びっくり！
1898年、イタリア政府による正式な発掘と復元が始まり、今も続いています。

The Roman Forum, known by its Italian name Foro Romano, is rectangular plaza surrounded by the ruins of several important ancient government buildings at the center of the city of Ancient Rome.  Foro means a public plaza.

It is located in the small valley between the Palatine and Capitoline Hills.

It is said that marble construction materials (including marble statues?) were brought out during the Renaissance.

Excavations and reconstruction were officially begun in 1898 by the Italian govenment and continue even now.

ティトゥスの凱旋門(18)
ローマに残る最古の凱旋門。ティトゥス帝の戦勝記念としてAD81年に建設。

Arco di Tito, Arch of Titus in English, is the oldest Arch of Triumph built in AD81.

パラティーノの丘/ Monte Palatino
…入場はフォロ・ロマーノと一緒ですが、フォロ・ロマーノの40m上にあるので、暑くて日陰のない中、結構歩くことになりました。

ここは、古代ローマ共和政期の高級住宅地で、アウグストゥスの時代から皇帝たちが宮殿を建造した地とのこと。ちなみに、この丘の名前が宮殿（パレス）の語源で、色々な国に伝わっています。

The Palatine Hill stands 40 meters above the Roman Forum, where Imperial palaces were built from the time of Augustus.
The hill is the etymological origin of the word Palace.

普通に古代の大理石の、崩れたモニュメントが転がっていてびっくりです

アウグストゥス政権時、青銅器時代(3000BC-2000BC)のポットや道具のかけらが発見されて、彼はこの地を「ローマの最初の町」だと宣言したとか。現代の考古学でも認定されていることで、すごいです！

丘に建つパラティーノ博物館(Museo Palatino(35))では、ローマの彫像だけでなく青銅器時代の物も見ることができます。（別料金はかからないが、写真撮影は不可）

During Augustus' reign, fragments of Bronze Age pots and tools were found and he declared this site the "original town of Rome."

Modern archaeology has identified evidence of Bronze Age settlement before Rome's founding!

There is a museum, Palatine Museum, on the Palatine in which artifacts of Bronze Age are displayed as well as Roman statues.
(You can't take pictures in the museum.)

パルティーノの丘からはテベレ川を見ることができます
You can see the Tevere River (Flume Tevere) from the hill.

↑写真の右手前＝巫女たちの家(14)（ヴェスタ神殿の聖火を見守る巫女たちの居住地だったところ。中庭に面して巫女の像が並ぶ）

写真奥の左右上部に馬車のモニュメントが乗った真っ白な建物がヴｨットリアーノ（Altare della Patria/祖国の祭壇）です。
この建物はローマの至る所から見られるので、シンボル的存在なのですが…事件が…？これはまた、別の話です。

Right in front, there used to be House of Vestals (Casa delle Vestali).

You can see a huge white building in the back whose roof has two coaches. It is Altare della Patia, also called Vittoriano.
As you can see it from all around Rome, it is regarded as a symbol of Rome.

Basilica di Massenzio/Basilica of Maxentius

Remains of the Basilica of Maxenitus and Constantine in Rome.
The building's northern aisle is all that remains.

308年にマクセンティウス帝のもと、フォロの北側で建設が始まり、コンスタンチン1世によって、312年に完成。
Construction began on the northern side of the forum under the emperor Maxentius in 308, and was completed in 312 by Constantine I.

203年にセヴェルス帝の東方遠征の戦勝と即位10周年を記念して建造された。

…税の取り立てや裁判が行われた会堂。西ゴート族のローマ侵入で焼失の際に溶けたコインの後が残る。

奥の茶色の建物(4)Curia=ｷｭｰﾘｱ=元老院
…共和政時代に最高会議が行われていたフォロ・ロマーノの中枢。20世紀に復元された建物。

最奥にビットリアーノ/Vittoriano

フォリ・インペリアリ通り　　Via del Fori Imperiali
コロッセオが見えます。どこに行っても博物館状態の町…

Colosse stands over there.  You would feel as if you were in the museum everywhere in Rome.

 

フォロ・ロマーノの出口から外に出ましたが、遺跡はまだまだ続きます

You can see a lot of ruins even after you go out of the exit.

 

 

 

遺跡は素晴らしいのですが、巨大すぎて、中には売店もなかったですし、飲み物を持たないで入ったら大変なことになっていました
お腹もペコペコに…　

やっと見つけたオープン・カフェも満席に近く…
トイレもなかなかないので、食事後レストランのトイレを利用したら紙がない！いや、ペーパーホルダーがない
北欧から来たという老婦人に、「紙あった？」と聞かれたので、「ありませんでした」と答えると、「店に文句言わなきゃ」と

ついでにチップをどうするのか聞いちゃいました。「アメリカとかと違って、ヨーロッパでは、絶対払うという決まりはないから、好きでいいのよ。」との答え
それを信じて、店員に、飲食料の1割だけ、チップを渡そうとしたら、何と、2割払うまで許してくれませんでした。…怖すぎる～～～

The area of the Roman Forum is so huge that you can't survive without having something to drink with you, because there are no shops inside the facility. 

Out side the facility, I found an open-air restaurant though it was so crowded.
As it was so hard to find a restroom, I tried using one at the restaurant.
I found no toilet paper and used mine. An old woman from Northern Europe was waiting for me to ask  "Did you find toilet paper?" I answered, "NO".
Then she said that she would complain about it to the staff of the restaurant!

At that time I was worring about how much to tip, so I dared to ask her about it. She was kind enough to suggest that I should tip as I like and I don't need to tip.
After the meal, a waiter (or a staff of the restaurant) asked me to give him a tip.  He never left me until I tipped him 20% of the meal.  So scary!

It is ironic that you can see the Arch of Septimius from the outside of the Roman Forum.

*農耕の神；彼の子Jupiter以前の黄金時代(golden age)の主神

ここから、真実の口を経てヴェネツィア広場に向かうのですが、「信じられない出来事が！！！」…この話はイタリア旅行４で…
