Today, I'd like to write about the cultural differences about alcohol between Canada and Japan.

After starting living in Canada in 2003, the first surprising thing was about alcohol.
Actually, there were three surprising facts…
1. Before I left for Canada, I had an idea that “Drinking outside in Canada is okay like Japan”; however, it turned out that it is illegal to drink alcohol outside!
FYI: If you were caught drinking outside, you would get in serious trouble, so do not drink outside!!
2. Actually, not only the fact that drinking outside is illegal, but also at a bar where we have to pay cash on delivery, we need to pay tip each time!
It means that if you buy beer at the bar, you need to pay extra.
3. If you want to drink at home, of course you can, however, the place you can buy alcohol is limited!!
You can’t buy alcohol anywhere!! In Toronto, the places I know we can buy alcohol are "LCBO" & "The Beer Store."
Their store time is limited and before holiday season, they close earlier than regular hours so if you have plans to throw a party on a long holiday, you should prepare beforehand!!
If you have a chance to enjoy alcohol in Toronto, Canada, please keep these in mind and enjoy!!

２００３年にカナダで生活し始めた時、一番最初に驚いたことは“お酒・アルコール”に関することでした。
特に次の３点が日本とは違う、と感じた点でした。
1. カナダに旅立つ前までは“日本のように公園などの公共の外の場所で、お酒を飲むことは全く問題ない”と思っていましたが、カナダに来て驚いたことに、外でアルコールを飲むことは違法だという点。
（＊アルコールを公共の場（外）で飲んだ際、警察につかまると大変なことになるので注意！！）
２．一回、一回お酒を頼んだ際に支払うシステムのバー（cash on delivery）では毎回の注文の度にチップを支払う必要がある、という点。
３．家でゆっくりとお酒を楽しみたい、パーティーをしたい方はもちろん可能です。が、アルコールを購入できる場所は限られており、自分の知る限りでは“LCBO” と“The Beer Store”というお店のみです。
注意点としましては、連休などはお休みになることが多いので、連休前など早めに購入することをおすすめします。
こんな感じのカナダ・トロントのお酒事情ですが、日本とまた違ったビールやアルコールを試すこともできますのでチャンスがあれば是非！！
