時間がない方へおすすめの英語学習法

本日は“時間がない”方へ特におすすめのウェブを使った学習方法を紹介したいと思います。

インターネット上を検索しますと、いろいろと良質な英語学習者向けのサイトが見つかります。

その中でも、“英語学習の時間が１日５分間なら作れる”という方や“どうやって英語の勉強したらいいのかわからない”という方、“英語を楽しく勉強したい”という方にはこちらのサイトがおすすめです。

サインインをする必要がありますが、良い点は
・自分の好きなプログラムが選べる
・５分間あれば勉強できる
・学習記録が残る
・・・と言ったところでしょうか。

自分はこの中のTOEICシリーズでDictationを毎日５分間、挑戦しています。
（２００８年の帰国後に始めたので、約１年半学習し続けていることになります。）

ディクテーションを通してリスニング＋語彙＋文法を伸ばす良いトレーニングになりますのでおすすめです！！

Good morning!!
Today, I'm going to introduce a good self-study method using the web.
When you check some websites that introduce how to study English by yourself, you'll find a lot of good ones.
However, if you have little time to study English or don't know how to study English, want to enjoy studying English, I recommend this one.

You need to sign in, but once you sign in, it's easy to use.
Also, there are some good points of this program.
e.g. You can choose any program you want to study, and it only takes about 5 minutes.
Personally, I try some of them for 5 min a day and I've been trying this for almost one and a half years.
It's a good program to train your listening + vocabulary + grammar!!
Give it a try!!

嬉しいお便り - TOEIC140点アップ！！

おはようございます。英語講師のarataです。

先日、７月１６日から約１週間（実質４回）ＴＯＥＩＣのレッスンをご受講いただいた方からのメールが届きました。

“７月２５日に受験したＴＯＥＩＣで、２ヶ月前の５月に受験した時の点数から合計１４０点アップしました”という内容でした。
（リスニング８５点・リーディング５５点アップ）

当初は“１週間で５０点アップが目標”ということもあり、メールを見た瞬間は自分のことのように嬉しかったです。
（実際、自分のスコアが上がることよりも嬉しいことです！！）

ご本人は本当にお忙しい中、通勤の時はMP3プレーヤーでＴＯＥＩＣの英文をディクテーションをするなど、１週間ＴＯＥＩＣ準備のための時間を作って頑張っていました。

今回の結果はレッスンの受講のみでなく、プラスアルファである“本人のやる気・努力”の当然の結果だと思います。

ご本人は“英語でのコミュニケーションができるレベル”を目標とされており、この結果に満足することなく英語トレーニングを続けておられます。

素晴らしい！
努力によって目標・夢は達成可能だということを改めて教えてもらいました。

"Every step makes a big difference" （一歩、一歩が大事！！）

Good morning!
I just received an e-mail from one of my students who took my TOEIC lesson 4 times in a week from July 16.
He said that his score was 140 points up more than his previous score.
(Listening: 85 points up / Reading: 55 points up)
This email made me really happy when I first read it.
I clearly remember how busy he was when he was taking my lessons, but he really worked hard to make some time for the TOEIC.
What he mainly did was that he dictated while commuting.
So, I was sure that his score would improve.
Even after he's acheived his initial goal, he's still learning English in order to achieve his ultimate goal - "communicating in English!!"
I'm impressed by his constant efforts & I'm certain he'll be able to communicate in English someday in the near future!!

英語講師の留学経験 （カナダ・エドモントン 編）

おはようございます。英語講師のarataです。

本日は“英語講師の留学経験（カナダ・エドモントン 編）”と題し、私の友達のいる街“エドモントン”の大きなモノを紹介したいと思います。

カナダの中でもバンクーバーやバンフなどに比べてしまうと、あまり馴染みの無い街エドモントン・・・しかし、ここには北米最大のショッピングモールがあります。

一歩、モールの中に足を踏み入れるとそこは驚きの世界です！！

例えば・・・

買い物の途中でも、アイススケートができるリンクがあります。

スケートリンクのみならず、イルカのショーが見れます。

イルカを見るのみでなく、自分が泳ぐことができるプールまであります。

この他に"cineplex"（シネコン）や遊園地なども入っています。

このような施設が１つの建物の中に入っているので、普通の買い物も１日観光になってしまいますが、行って損はないおすすめの場所です。

余談ですが、上記の写真は友達が財布を車の中に置いてきてしまい、彼がそれを取りに行っている間の時間で撮りました。
駐車場はモールを取り囲むように配置されているのにも関わらず、運が悪いと車まで２０～３０分くらいかかります・・・
が、今になれば良い思い出の一つです！！

How's it going?
Today, I'm going to talk about a city where my friend lives.
The city is..."Edmonton!!"
I don't think many of Japanese people know the city compared with Vancouver or Banff, but the city has the biggest shopping mall in the North America.
Once you step inside, you'll probably find yourself in a totally different world!!
It's because...
there's an ice skate link.
Not only an ice skate line, but you can see a dolphin show.
Also, there's a swimming pool too.
In addition to these atractions, there are cineplex and amusement park.
Needless to say, these facilities are in one building, so it's so huge that it takes one day to look around.
Actually, there is a personal story about the photos shown above.
I came to this mall with my friend in his car.
After we walked around for a while, he realized that he had left his wallet in his car.
The parking lot is surrounding the mall, but if you are unfortunate, you have to walk about 20-30 minutes from where you are to where you've parked your car.
While he went to his car to look for his wallet, I took the photos above.
At that time, I had to wait for about 20-30 minutes, but now it's become one of my great memories.

すぐに使える英語 （許可を得る表現）

おはようございます。英語講師のarataです。

今日は“すぐに使える英語 - 混乱しがちな許可を得る”時の表現を見ていきます。

もし、観光地で見知らぬ人に写真を撮ってくれるよう頼むときは、下記どちらの英文が正しいでしょうか？

① Can I take a picture please?
② Can you take a picture please?

正解は・・・

②のCan you take a picture?（写真を撮ってくれますか？）です。
①のCan I take a picture?ですと（写真を撮ってもいいですか？）という疑問文になります。

英語を喋り慣れている人でも、この間違いをすることが多々あります。
気をつけて使っていきましょう！！

If you choose "1. Can I take a picture?", it means YOU take a picture, not a stranger.
Sometimes, I hear this mistake, so please be careful when you ask a permission!!

英語講師の最新TOEICスコア

おはようございます。英語講師のarataです。

昨日、７月に受験したTOEICの結果をインターネット上で確認しました。

結果は・・・９７０点（リスニング４９５点＋リーディング４７５点）でした。

TOEICは１年に１回しか受験しないのですが、２００８年は９５０点、２００９年は９６０点でしたので、１０点刻みでアップしています。

このままの単純計算でいくと満点の９９０点まであと２回の受験！！という計算です。

自分の弱点と自負している“語彙の強化”と“イディオムや句動詞”を重点的に自己学習し、次回の２０１１年（予定）には９９０点に近づけるよう、一層努力していきます！！

TOEICのスコアが必要な方々や自分の生徒の方々、一歩でも目標に近づけるよう“毎日”ディクテーションなどで英語に触れましょう！！

それでは今日の一言：
"It all depends on your daily effort!!"（すべては努力次第）

Good morning!
I received my TOEIC score, which I took in July, by email yesterday.
The score was 970 (Listening: 495 & Reading: 475).
I take the TOEIC test annuarlly, and my score in 2008 was 950, and in 2009 was 960.
It means that my score is improving by 10 points each year, so with this simple calculation, I can get the perfect score, 990, in 2 years.
Anyway, I'll try to improve specifically my weaknesses - "vocabulary, idioms, and phrasal verbs" in order to get the perfect score the next time in 2011.
Those who need TOEIC score, please try dictation, reading, or some other way to keep learning English everyday!!

英語講師の今週の新たな挑戦

本日からプライベートレッスンで小学生を教えることになりました。

以前、中学生を教えていた経験はありますが、小学生は初めてです。

少しでも、英語での可能性を広げてもらえるように“楽しく”かつ“自信を持ってもらえるような”レッスンをしてきたいと思います。

準備万端でレッスンへ行ってきます！！

それでは何か新しいことへ挑戦する方への今日の一言：

How was your weekend?
I'm teaching an elementary school student in my private lesson at a cafe from today!!
I've taught several junior high school students before but teaching an elementary school student is my first time.
I hope my student will enjoy my lesson and also she will have confidence in English communication in the future.
I'll just do the best I can!!

すぐに使える英語 （ありがとうの表現）

おはようございます。英語講師のarataです。

本日は“使える英語シリーズ - ありがとうの表現”を見ていこうと思います。

普段、“ありがとう”を英語で言うと"Thank you"や"Thank you very much"などがすぐに頭に浮かんでくると思います。

ネイティブはこの"Thank you"も使いますが、次の言い方をよく使っています。

"I appreciate (you)"

( )の部分には他に、"your help" や "it"、"that you worked with us so closely"などを入れることで、日常やビジネスなどいろいろな場面で使うことが可能です！！

"Thank you"もいいですが、時には是非"I appreciate you"にも挑戦してみましょう！！

From today, I'm going to start a new series - "Useful English expressions" to check some very useful expressions.
The first expressions is how to say "Thank you."
In Japan, if I ask people in Japan what to say "Arigato" in English, most of them will probably say "Thank you" or "Thank you very much."
Native English speakers use these expressions too of course, but they also use the next expression - "I appreciate (you)."
In the ( ), it is possible to put "your help","it" and so on.
Let's try to use "I appreciate..." from now on!!

さて、本日は英語講師の留学経験（トロント観光・CNタワー編）と題し、カナダの大きなモノを紹介していきたいと思います。

カナダ（トロント）の大きいものと言えば、やはりこれ！！

（過去に）世界一の高さを誇ったCNタワーです！！

５５３メートルあります。

ちなみに展望室があり、そこに"glass ceiling"（ガラスの天井）と呼ばれる場所があります。
上から見た絵がこれ！！

東京スカイツリーには追い抜かれてしまいますが、トロントを訪れたら折角なのでCNタワーへ行ってみましょう！！

また、トロントへ行かれた際には英語でのやりとりに是非、挑戦を！！

I really thank to Mr. Koji Takeuchi, who is a lecturer of the business seminar I ttended, because he introduced this blog in his blog!!
Today, I'm going to write about a BIG thing in Canada.
There are a log of big things in Canada, but today I'd like to focus on the C.N. tower!!
It used to be the world tallest building that is 553 meter high.
In the tower, there is a kind of scary "glass ceiling" and from there we can see the ground beneath you!!
If you have a chance to visit Toronto, do not forget to visit there & until then, please brush up on your English!!

“英語を社内の公用語にする企業”について - 英語講師の観点から

おはようございます。英語講師のarataです。

本日は“英語を社内の公用語にする企業について”英語講師の観点から述べてみたいと思います。
（以下、あくまでも個人的な意見ですので、悪しからず・・・）

現在、日産に代表されるように英語を社内の公用語として使う企業が増えてきています。

最近ではユニクロ・楽天といった企業が英語を社内の公用語とすることを発表しました。

英語講師として“会社の国際化”つまり“国際的な競争力を高め、勝つ”ということを考えた場合は、英語を社内の公用語とすることに賛成です。

個人的な意見として、英語も日本語もすべての言語は“コミュニケーションをとるためのツールの１つ”にすぎないと思っているのですが、実際の“英語講師として”の本音としましては“英語が自由に扱えるようになれば、可能性が広がる”ということを個人的に経験している点からも是非、できる限り皆様に挑戦して欲しいというのが本音です。

“自分の能力（英語力、英語力向上に伴う交渉力、コミュニケーション力等）を伸ばすことで、（個人として・企業としての）可能性を広げる”ということが前提あれば社内の英語公用語化に大賛成です。

ちなみに、お隣の国・韓国ではほとんどの大企業は新入社員にTOEIC９００点を義務付けています。
（これは、会社の国際化のため・個人としての能力向上のためだと聞いたことがあります。）

日本も同じことをする必要はないと思いますが、今後、英語を使う企業はますます増えてくると思いますので、社内の公用語の英語化の機会も“前向き”に捉え“可能性を広げるため・自分のため”にもしっかり取り組んで損はないと個人的に思います。

仕事ができる人は必ず英語もモノにできる！！と信じ、本日もTOEICなどのレッスンに行って参ります！！

Hi!! How are you doing?
Nowadays in Japan, there are a lot of companies that adopt English as a company's first language, such as Nissan, Uniqro, and Rakuten.
I'm in favor of this trend only if these companies seriously aim at competing in the global market and win.
I'm certain that if each employee can improve his/her ability with trying to master English, his/her company will also get a lot of benefits after all.
(I mean mastering English is not only mastering English itself, but also learning how to negotiate and communicate with others.)
Personally, as an English teacher, I think any languages including English and Japanese are just one of "communication tools".
Even though English is one of communucation tools, I recommend trying to master it because if you can master it, the result will make a big difference!!
The one great point of being able to communicate in English is that you can really expand your possibility!!
In the South Korea, a lot of major companies require applicants at least TOEIC 900.
I heard it somewhere before but this "requiring TOEIC 900" is for the company and for his/her own ability.
I don't think Japanese companies should do the same, but I'm pretty sure that more and more companies will adopt English in the future.
Therefore, I hope more and more people take this trend as a good opportunity and improve their own ability to be more active in the world-wide market!!

“英語学校設立のための” 創業セミナー総括

おはようございます。英語講師のarataです。

６月９日に始まった川崎での“商人デビュー塾”も昨日、最終回を迎えました。

楽しい時間はすぐ過ぎるように、毎回２時間の講義はあっという間でした。

この創業セミナーがなければ、このブログを始めることも、ツイッターでつぶやくこともなく、“今こうやってブログを書いている自分”は存在していなかったと思います。

全１４回の講義を通して、個人的に学んだことは・・・
・ウェブの効果的な活用法
・起業に役に立つ情報（数字の見方）や現在の日本の経済状況の把握
・ビジネスプランの作成・発表 などですが、この中でも特筆すべきことは
・“創業に向けて前向きな自信を持つことができたこと”です。

これもひとえに、同じように創業を目指している方々や、裏方として動いてくださっている市の施設や関連のスタッフの方々、講師の竹内幸次先生のお陰だと思っております。

ありがとうございました。この場をお借りしてお礼申し上げます。

“感謝”を近い将来、しっかり何らかの形でお返しできるように、自分にできることを精一杯やっていきたいと思います。

Yesterday, I attended a business seminar in Kawasaki which started on June 9th.
Like "Time flies" when you are having a good time, every two-hour lecture passed very quickly.
Without this seminar, I wouldn't have started this blog or twitter.
Through the 14 seminars, I personally learned...
・effective ways to use the web
・how to read some business numbers and understand current Japanese economic situation
・making my original business plan and giving a presentation
and I can say this is the most important thing I learned...
・having a positive confidence about my business
I'd really like to thank to the attendees like me, staff members who work in related facilities, and the lecturer, Mr. Koji Takeuchi.
