CHC physician assistant saves lives of 2 men at Laolao Bay

TWO young men and their father, Rep. Richard B. Seman, had a good reason to be thankful on Thanksgiving.
The two sons lived to celebrate the holiday after a doctor from the Commonwealth Healthcare Corp. saved their lives outside the reef at Laolao Bay earlier this month.
CHC physician assistant Keith Leonard Longuski had just finished a session of his scuba diving certification lesson at Laolao Bay when he learned that two young men spearfishing along the reef were in the verge of drowning.
Longuski, his instructor Eva McKinney and another diving student, Josey Nickles, were returning to the shore with their fins and masks already off, when a diver from another diving group, Mai Dive, called for help as they were pulling a young man who was barely breathing out of the water.
The young man was Ricky, son of Representative Seman.
When Ricky was turned over to them the other divers told Longuski’s group that there was another young man drifting off the reef.
In an interview, Longuski, 29, said while he was helping Ricky onto the beach, the young man, still gasping for breath was able to tell him that his brother, Jay, was still out there.
So Longuski dropped his tank and ran to the reef as fast as he could. He saw Jay floating face down so Longuski quickly wrapped his arms around Jay and pulled him off the reef and onto the beach.
Longuski said he was not certified yet and it was just his second time diving and first time in the open water.
Upon reaching the beach, McKinney monitored Jay while Longuski took care of Ricky.
“Ricky and Jay were both exhausted at this time and had trouble communicating their parents’ contact numbers,” Longuski said.
It turned out that Rick and Jay had a third companion, Kal, who did not immediately notice what was going on because he was spearfishing.
When Kal surfaced and saw what was happening, he rushed to the scene and helped. He also called the parents of Rick and Jay.
Longuski said after some time, “Ricky began losing the ability to breathe on his own and then stopped breathing all together. I had to instill rescue breaths to get him breathing on his own again.”
Meanwhile, Jay began vomiting so McKinney helped maintain his ability to breathe.
The Department of Public Safety’s Emergency Medical Services ambulance arrived and medics rushed Rick and Jay to the hospital.
Longuski headed to the hospital, too, and met with Rick and Jay’s parents.
In a separate interview, McKinney, an open-water scuba instructor of Kura-Ling Dive Company, said Ricky and Jay were both cut up when they got them off the reef.
The riptide had been smashing the brothers against the sharp reef, she said.
When the diver from Mai Dive turned Ricky over to her, she heard the young man uttering the words, “Never mind me, save my brother.”
McKinney said that up to now, she keeps hearing the words at night before she sleeps.
Longuski shared with Variety how he felt at the time: “When it was all happening, I felt like our training went into the work mode. I had to just stay calm and do what needed to be done at that particular time.”
He said the significance of what had just happened did not occur to him until hours later because he and other people helping had to focus on the victims, attend to their care, get them to the ambulance and follow them to the hospital to make sure everything was all right.
Later, “I was like, ‘They might have not made it,’ and I thought, ‘Oh, wow that was close.’ ”
He added, “I had been on island for five weeks at this point and that was my first time to go to Laolao, one that I will definitely not forget. I would like to express that this was a collective act that involved many people and that their importance was equal in the survival of these two young men. I am just happy that I was there to help with my knowledge and training so this family could remain whole.”
と新聞記事を全部載せましたが、海で溺れた息子さんたちを助けたメイダイブチーム（お客様が助けを呼びに行き、マツオきょうだいは溺れた人を海から引っ張りあげました。）です。
その時に手助けしてくれたダイバーさんが病院関係の人だったと感謝祭パーティーで知ったのですが、その他の詳細も詳しくセーマン・パパさんから伺ったのですが、本当に、本当に息子さん２人とも元気になってくれて良かったです！！
救急隊員が来るまで溺れた人を親身にケアしてくれた現地のガイドさんも「その場にいた皆のチームプレイが良かったんだね！」と、皆で息子さんたちの快復を心から喜んだのでした。
ちなみに感謝祭のパーティーへ一緒に来てもらったトトちゃんパパは・・・セーマン・パパさんに「おぉ～！マイ、ボーイフレンド～ォォォ～
」と呼ばれるくらいの間柄でしたし、さらに！セーマン・パパさんはシゲさんの昔の従業員のイトコだったのでした。
サイパンって人口５万人くらいいるんだけど、結構せまい世の中なのね？？？
さて、午後にはシゲさんのご友人からお電話をいただきまして、夕食は大好きな芋屋レストランへ行くことになりました。
一番乗り芋屋！でしたので、「料理長さんオススメの今日のスペシャル料理！」を食べることができました。
