Kayoko,
I'm not sure if you will remember me from Wesleyan (class of 1978). I plan on "retiring" from teaching ESL at my elementary school in two more years and was thinking about teaching overseas for a year after that. I remembered that you said you taught English as a Second Language in Japan, so I thought I'd check with you about the possibility of teaching English in Japan. What are your thoughts?
Also, I cut and pasted an email you sent me SIX years ago! (from my old/not-working email). I will try to answer the questions that you asked me back then (see below):
I hope to hear from you soon. All the best!

①
Kayoko,
This is from Cathy Bradach Rockoff of Wesleyan College. I'm going through all the addresses since the 30th class reunion, and I want to make sure you were the person I talked with, and who came all the way from Japan to Macon. Am I right? This is the only e-mail address I can find from Japan. This is so embarrassing!
If so, I wanted to give you Mamiko Matsuda's contact information:
Please let me know if I have the right person!
All the best,
Cathy

Dear Cathy,
Thank you so much for finding my e-mail address and giving me Mamiko's address.
Yes! I know her. I was with her for two years at Wesleyan.
I remember she said she was going to teach English in Texas, but I didn't know she is still in Texas.
I'll get in touch with her.
I'm sorry I have not sent you email soon after I got back home.
Thank you so much for warm hospitality.
I surely enjoyed being at Wesleyan Reunion. It was great.
Wesleyan is beautiful it was beyond my imagination and all classmates are sweet and friendly.
I would like to come back again if I have a chance.
If you have time, I would like to ask you about Weslyan.
I was looking for from the site, but I couldn't find.
Would you tell me the meaning of Wesleyan school color,
and about the Alma Mater?
What is the name of the song we sang before the meals?
I remember I used to sing the same song in Japanese when we eat meals at the kindergarten.
I am sorry I asked you many things, if there are some imformation about them on site of Wesleyan, please tell me where they are.
Best wishes,
Kayoko
③
Kayko,
Thanks for getting back with me. My students' last day of school was May 23, and my last day is May 28th, so I'm getting excited! I know school goes through June in Japan, right?
I do have the answer to two of your questions. The song we sang before meals is called the Doxology (Praise God From Whom All Blessings Flow).
It's actually part of the Methodist worship service.
The Alma Mater goes like this (more or less):
Hail Wesleyan, thou emblem of all that is grand
The noblest, the greatest in all our fair land
Thine ideals are honored, thy name always blessed
A fountain of knowledge,
The oldest and best ......(woman's college in the world).
A star in the dark is thy glorious past
Forever and ever thy glory shall last
Upholding thine ideals thy daughters shall be
True faithful and loyal,
Dear Wesleyan, to thee.
If I were you, I would ask Kathy Bradley @kathy about the meaning of the Wesleyan's school color. I'm sure she would be able to answer just about any question you had about Wesleyan.
Have a good week,
Cathy Bradach Rockoff
Though I have done a lot of research about Wesleyan traditions, I don't
think I ever came across anything that explained how purple and lavender were
chosen for the college colors. As for the class colors, I never found
anything about them either. At one time each of the classes also had a class
flower. It is possible that Tena Roberts, who was the librarian when we
were at Wesleyan, might know the answers to your questions. I can send you
her e-mail address or send her n e-mail myself, whichever you prefer.
Please don't apologize about asking questions. Any conversation about
Wesleyan is fun!
