Finally, I got to see Mao-san who is the very famous energetic sincere native Okinawan photographer yesterday at the Yokohama Art Gallery-Azamino.

I'm not sure when I heard her name first, but I remember I saw the advertisement of her exhibition at Yokohama Art museum in Minato Mirai about 10 years ago.

However unfortunately, I didn't have courage to see her works at that time, looking at the pictures of Bases in Okinawa was somehow disgusting, not happy things for me and most of Okinawan people.

The advertisement showed she is the photographer of Bases in Okinawa, I believe.

Whatever it is, time has come, it was quite easy for Mao-san and I became FB friends thanks to my friend, Hisako Komatsu (松田久子) who introduced me Mao-san, is also a photographer. And we have known each other since our family moved to Yokohama from Tokyo about 31 years ago.

Mao-san's pictures at the exhibition this time recalled the years behind the time I left Okinawa and decided to live around Tokyo.

Some of my friends who chose their lives living in Honshu not Okinawa say, "My parents were strict, so I run away from them.", something like that, honestly I never felt like that, but it is the same I felt I can live more freely, and Mao-san told us and wrote in her album, she found the free in the Bases in Okinawa, that's why she started working in the bar.

That's very interesting and I'd love to see her again.
