夏休みの課題と置き土産

夏休みと言っても学生ではないのであまり関係は無いのですが・・

毎年、真夏にやることは

大物洗いや手洗いできる冬物を洗うことで、

お天気の日に、リビングや寝室のカーテン４セット洗いました。

夏休みの課題図書ではありませんが、下記の３冊を一気読みしました。

それから、something new ？

7月からピアノ教室に通い始め、毎日、ピアノを弾いています。

ピアノを選んだ理由は、基本的に音楽好きと言うことで、

お絵描き等より続くような気がしたので。

5月から再開したリズム体操、7月は一度だけ行き、

暑さと湿気にメゲ、以降夏休み中と言うことで、

自宅でSNSに流れるリール？を眺めながら体を動かしています。

そうそう、夏休みと言えばセール

コロナ禍でも買い物は楽しみのひとつ

7月8日の午前中に近隣のデパートへ下見に

お昼前に戻りTVを付けると速報、あの緊迫した様子が流れていてビックリ

翌朝、アメリカの友人からメール

Just woke up and learned the news about former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe. This is horrific and tragic. I am so very sorry. Japan must be in shock. (Jenet)(7/8)

It sure was horrifying. I, and many Japanese, I guess, would never have imagined a politician "shot" to death in Japan. We do have shooting incidents, but mostly among gangsters. Even though I don't like Abe, and I am positive he was responsible for corruption while he was a prime minister, it should not have happened. (Rieko)(7/8)

Thank you for your message.  Yes,  it sure is horrifying.  In Japan, gun control is very strict, we couldn’t imagine this kind of shooting could happen.  From yesterday, all channel of TV was broadcasting the news all day long.  This kind of tragedy should not happen.  The investigation is undergoing, so the detail would be come to clear in near future.  We are very much shocked it happened in peaceful Japan. Thank you for your email. Yes, I was shocked at the Assassination of the former Prime Minister, too.

I went to Okinawa twice last week in June for the 50th memorial Anti-war peace concert of Okinawa’s return from U.S. rule. And the second week of July, I went to Okinawa again for the visit to our family’s grave for the anniversary of my mother’s passing.

In the meantime, my husband started working at the same company, and we started piano lessons from June, and we bought an electric piano, and I have examinations at the hospitals, so we have been busy as usual. I grow Okinawan vegetables in my garden and enjoy seeing them every day.

It is so good to hear from you. I know the trips to Okinawa mean so much. An anti-war peace concert sounds like a lovely, lovely way to remember and honor people. I am glad you were able to visit your family's grave and to remember your mother. I like to do the same.

 

My parents are buried in my home town in South Carolina, and, because of Covid, I have not been there since November 2019.  It bothers me that there is no one to go by to tend their graves and my maternal grandmother's grave. This is a disadvantage of living over five hours away.. They were married in London on July 14, 1944 -- 78 years ago last Wednesday.  

 

I wish you and your husband well in all these new endeavors! I cannot wait to tell Cathy Bradach Rockoff that you are taking piano lessons. She will love that So do I.

 

My green bean plants have produced a few handfuls of beans to throw in a saute.  They grow in a large strawberry jar.  I wish I had the strength and energy to garden and to tend to the yard. Doing even a little makes me feel that I have done a lot! Isn't that funny?
