風でスカートが…キャサリン妃の写真掲載したインド紙に批判殺到


インドの有力紙が12日、
同国を訪問中の英国のキャサリン妃（Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge）のドレスの裾が風でめくれ上がって
太ももがあらわになった写真を1面に掲載し、
女優マリリン・モンロー（Marilyn Monroe）の出演映画の有名な一場面になぞらえて
「マリリンの瞬間（Marilyn moment）」と見出しを付けて報じたところ、
ソーシャルメディアなどで「礼儀に欠ける」などと批判が殺到する事態となっている。



インドを代表する新聞の一つであるタイムズ・オブ・インディア（Times of India）が
この写真を一面に載せたところ、読者からキャサリン妃に対する礼を失しているとの非難が寄せられた。

簡易ブログのツイッター（Twitter）でも、
太ももが露出した写真を掲載した同紙の判断を疑問視する声が相次ぎ、
「タイムズ・オブ・インディア」はトレンドワード入りした。

あるユーザーは「低俗なジャーナリズム」とこき下ろし、
別のユーザーは「さすがタイムズ・オブ・インディア！　インドに来てくれた招待客に対して、1面に載せた写真がこれとはね」と皮肉った。

She’s been a royal for five years, yet the hair-and-hem mishaps keep coming

Is it Groundhog Day? Because a feeling of déjà vu overcame me when I saw the pictures from India of Kate, duchess of Cambridge, struggling to control her skirt à la Marilyn Monroe. Laying a wreath on the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Delhi, then standing still while the Last Post plays should be a solemn moment for Kate and her husband, Prince William. It was nearly a disaster. The wind picked up the hem of her full-skirted dress and tossed it around, leaving Kate to abandon all dignity as she repeatedly grappled and pushed her skirt down in the gusts, her hair flying around her head like a dust storm.

This shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone who has followed Kate and her fashion. Indeed, it’s pretty much expected. For Kate’s love of full-skirted dresses and coats has caused repeated Marilyn Monroe moments. In 2014, I reported on her hair-and-hem problems, noting that, of “30 daytime public events in 2013, there were four unforced errors (13 per cent of the total), including a mid-thigh Moloh coat dress, whose back pleats went flying as she played table tennis with William at a Scottish community centre. For a royal, particularly one in her position, that’s a high faux pas rate.”

It seems to happen on every high-profile royal tour, including Canada (2011), and several times during their 2013 tour of New Zealand and Australia. And also at key moments, including arrivals and departures, when wind is a virtual certainty.

SHE may have been wearing a knee-length coat, but the Duchess of Cambridge perhaps didn't anticipate just how windy it would be in Wellington today.

As she and her husband, the Duke of Cambridge, arrived in New Zealand with their son Prince George, the 32-year-old royal gave onlookers an eyeful when a gust of wind ensured that she had her very own Marilyn Monroe moment.

Whilst exiting the aircraft with her baby boy in her arms, Kate was forced to quickly pull down her red double-breasted Catherine Walker dress and coat as it exposed her slender thighs and almost resulted in a rather embarrassing knicker flash.

The mother-of-one looked shocked as the chilly weather played havoc with her stunning attire, but she quickly rectified the situation - all whilst clutching Prince George on her left hip.

Kate had teamed her colouful coat with a matching Gina Foster pillbox hat, but perhaps she will be reconsidering her attire now depending on how windy it is Down Under.

However, this isn't the first time that Kate has found herself in this rather awkward situation whilst on the other side of the world, as back in September 2012 she was forced to hold her dress down as she arrived at Brisbane airport with Prince William.

A similar thing happened the year before whilst Kate was speaking to soldiers as she arrived at Calgary Airport in Yellowknife, Canada, in July 2011.
