Dali I want to make an observation. When I first came to Japan, many years ago, canned chuhai was not common. Canned beers were popular. But still, we could buy some canned chuhai. As I recall, the companies were Hiliki* and Takara‒two companies only. Suntory, Kirin, and others did not make chuhai. These two chuhais were not so good. (Still the same taste as of now actually.)
ダリちゃん ちょっといい？ わしが初めて日本に来た時、ずいぶん前になるけど、缶酎ハイは一般的でなかった。缶ビールは有名だったけどね。それでも、缶酎ハイは買えたけどね。「ハイリキ」と「タカラ」この2社だけだったと覚えている。サントリー、キリン、他は酎ハイを作っていなかった。これら2社の酎ハイはそんなにおいしくなかった。（実際今のと味は一緒だけど。）

Dali In those days, as today, we could get chuhai in an izakaya in a glass and canned chuhai in a convenience store. But, at that time, ten to twenty years ago, there was a very interesting dichotomy. In izakayas there were only two varieties. Specifically, lemon and lime. But now off course, there are many varieties. Here is a curious point. The lemon has a sour taste and lime is sweet. Why is lemon sour and lime sweet? Why? These two fruits are equally sour! Anyway, that’s my first point.
ダリちゃん 当時は、今と同様、居酒屋ではグラスに入った酎ハイが、コンビニでは缶酎ハイが手に入った。でもその頃、10－20年前になるけど、とても面白い二者択一があったんだ。居酒屋ではたった2種類しかなかった。具体的に言うと、レモンとライムだ。でももちろん今では色々種類がある。でも奇妙なんだよね。レモンは酸っぱいけど、ライムは甘いんだよね。なぜレモンが酸っぱくて、ライムが甘いんだろう？ どうして？ 両方とも同じ酸っぱいフルーツなのに。とにかくこれが第一点。

Dali My second point is the dichotomy of canned chuhai. In those days, if you went to a convenience store or other shop, to get a canned chuhai, there were only two varieties. What were they? Lemon and grapefruit. Why the strange dichotomy?

Dali For many years, the only flavors of canned chuhai were lemon and grapefruit, but in izakayas, they were lemon and lime. Why? That is the second point of this diatribe. Me I think that is because, in izakayas, limes were readily available. On the other hand, the flavor of the lime was not well-known. That is why the more well-known flavor of grapefruit was adopted for canned chuhai at that time. Anyway, now, there is indeed a huge variety of chuhai available. Dali In izakayas, my favorite chuhai is plain chuhai with a lemon slice. I prefer a natural flavor. I don’t like the imitation lemon or lime chuhai which is colored with yellow or green syrup.
ダリちゃん 居酒屋では、わしのお気に入りはレモンのスライスの入ったプレーン酎ハイ。自然な味が好きなんだ。黄色や緑色のシロップで色付けされた偽（にせ）のレモンチューハイやライムチューハイは好きでない。

Dali Takohi. It boomed in the Showa period. It is no longer available, so has only nostalgic significance. Now, my favorite chuhai is the flavorless Suntory Strong Zero Dry. Although this series also has the lemon variety, it tastes horrible!
ダリちゃん タコハイ。昭和にブームになった。もう手に入らないけどね。懐かしいという価値だけだね。今のわしの好みの酎ハイは、プレーンなサントリー・ストロング・ゼロ・ドライ。レモン味もあるけどひどい味！

Dali Kirin Hon-shibori. All flavors have only three ingredients. It is so simple: carbonated water, vodka, and pure fruit juice. No artificial flavor. So, let me describe the lemon flavor. It contains 12% lemon juice. Somebody once told me that 12% was not much, but the fact is, pure lemon juice is very powerful, making the 12% more than adequate. The orange flavor contains 45% pure orange juice, plus vodka and carbonated water. It also has no artificial ingredients.
ダリちゃん キリン本搾り。全てのフレーバーは、たった3種の材料のみ。とってもシンプル。炭酸水、ウォッカ、それに全果汁。人工甘味料ゼロ。で、レモンフレーバーについて言わせてね。12％レモン果汁入り。12％は大したことないって言っていた人がいたけど、実際はねピュアーなレモン果汁はとてもパワフル。12％で十分すぎるくらいだ。オレンジフレーバーは45％のピュアーオレンジ果汁が入っていて、プラス、ウォッカ、炭酸水だ。これも一切人工添加物なしだね。

Dali Canned chuhai now almost always contains vodka. However, I think Takara still contains shochu, which is why Takara is more expensive.
ダリちゃん 今の缶酎ハイは、ほとんど全部ウォッカだよ。ただ、タカラは今でも焼酎だ。だからちょっと値段が張るんだ。
