I spoke about the issue of transgender athletes in my Nova lesson today.
The Algerian Boxer ,Imane Khelif , won gold in Paris 2024.
But Khelif was disqualified from last year's World Championships by the International Boxing Association (IBA).
She failed gender eligibility tests in 2023.
However, the International Olympic Committee strongly defended Khelif's right to compete and ruled her to be eligible.
Khelif's participation was widely discussed online.
X CEO Mr Musk and Harry Potter author Ms Rowling both posted comments about Khelif.
Ms Rowling said Khelif was “ enjoying the distress of Carini he has just punched in the head”.
Italian boxer , Angela Carini abandoned her bout after 46 seconds.
Mr Musk shared a post from swimmer Riley Gaines which said "men don’t belong in women’s sports".
Khelif has filed a lawsuit over alleged cyberbullying, which reportedly names author JK Rowling and X owner Elon Musk.
Paris public prosecutor's office launched a cyberbullying probe.
I guess,
Rowling and Musk's opinions and feelings are more rational, or even normal, than the IOC's decisions.
It’s said,
The IOC's framework on transgender athletes places responsibility on individual federations to determine eligibility criteria.
The IOC should have followed the IBA's World Championships‘ decision.
