121 それゆえ、あなたがた​の​すべて​の​軽々しい​話、すべて​の​高笑い、すべて​の​みだら​な​欲望、すべて​の​高慢​と​軽薄、すべて​の​邪悪​な​行い​を​やめ​なさい。

122 あなたがた​自身​の​中​から​一人​の​教師を​任命​しなさい。そして、全員​が​同時​に​語る​こと​なく、一時​に​一人りを​語らせて、すべて​の​者​が​彼の​言う​こと​に​耳を​傾ける​よう​に​しなさい。それ​は、すべて​の​者が​語って、すべて​の​者​が​互いに​教化し​合う​よう​に、また​すべて​の​人​が​等しい​特権を​持てる​よう​に​する​ため​で​ある。

123 あなたがた​は​互いに​愛し​合う​よう​に​しなさい。むさぼる​の​を​やめ​なさい。福音​が​求めて​いる​よう​に、互いに​分ち​合う​よう​に​なり​なさい。

124 怠惰​で​ある​の​を​やめ​なさい。不純で​ある​の​を​やめ​なさい。互いに​非難​し​合う​の​を​やめ​なさい。必要​以上​に​長く​眠る​の​を​やめ​なさい。疲れる​こと​の​ない​よう​に、早く​床​に​就き​なさい。あなたがた​の​体​と​精神​が​活気きづけられる​よう​に、早起き​を​しなさい。

125 何より​も、完全​と​平和​の​きずな​で​ある​慈愛​の​きずな​を、外套​の​よう​に​身 に​まとい​なさい。

126 わたし​が​来る​まで、気​を​落さない​よう​に​常に​祈り​なさい。見よ、見よ、わたし​は​すぐに​来て、あなたがた​を​わたし​の​もと​に​迎え​入る​で​あろう。アーメン。

131 永遠の​聖約​の​しるし、すなわち​記念​として、神​の​前​に​ひざまずいて​祈り​を​ささげ​なさい。

132 そして、彼​の​後に​だれか​が​入って​来る​とき、教師しは​立ち上って​両手​を​天に​向けて、まことに​まっすぐ​に​伸ばし、次​の​よう​な​言葉​で​その​兄弟、または​兄弟たち​に​あいさつ​しなさい。

133 「あなた​は​兄弟、または​兄弟​たち​です​か。わたし​は​永遠​の​聖約​の​しるし、すなわち​記念​として、主​イエス・​キリスト​の​御名​に​よって​あなた​に​あいさつ​します。この​聖約​に​従がって、わたし​は、神​の​恵​に​より、愛​の​きずな​を​もって、あなた​の​友​に​なり​兄弟に​なる​と​いう、また​感謝を​もって、罪が​なく、神​の​すべて​の​戒に​従がって​とこしえ​に​いつまで​も​歩む​と​いう、確固と​した​揺ぎない​不変​の​決意いを​もって​あなた​を​仲間​に​迎え​入れ​ます。アーメン。」

134 また、この​あいさつ​を​受ける​に​ふさわしくない​と​される​者が、あなたがた​の​中​に​場所を​得る​よう​な​こと​が​あって​は​ならない。わたし​の​家​が​その​よう​な​者に​よって​汚される​の​を、許して​は​ならない​から​で​ある。

135 また、入って​来る​者で、わたし​の​前に​忠実​で​あり、兄弟​で​ある​者​は、あるいは​彼ら​が​兄弟​たち​で​あれ​ば​彼ら​は、両手を​天​に​向けて​伸ばし、この​同じ​祈り​と​聖約​を​もって、または​その​同じ​しるし​として「アーメン」と​言う​こと​に​より、塾長じ​または​教師​に​あいさつ​しなければ​ならない。

136 見よ、まことに、わたし​は​あなたがた​に​言う。これ​が、神​の​家​に​おける​預言者の​塾​で​互いに​交わす​あいさつ​の​ため​の、あなたがた​に​とって​の​一つ​の​範例​で​ある。

137 あなたがた​は、祈り​と​感謝を​もって、また​御霊が​告げる​まま​に、以上の​こと​を​行なう​よう​に​召されて​いる。御霊​は、主の​家​に​おける​預言者の​塾​で​あなたがた​が​行なう​すべて​の​こと​を​告げる​で​あろう。この​よう​に​行なう​の​は、主​の​家が​聖所、あなたがた​を​教化​する​聖​なる​御霊​の​幕屋やと​なる​ため​で​ある。

138 また、あなたがた​は、この​時代​の​人々​の​血から​清められて​いる​者​の​ほか、あなたがた​の​中​の​だれ​も​この​塾​に​受け入れて​は​ならない。

139 そして、洗足​の​儀式​に​よって​受け入れ​なければ​ならない。この​目的​で​洗足の​儀式​は​制定​された​から​で​ある。

140 さらに​また、洗足​の​儀式​は、教会​の​大管長、すなわち​管理​長老​が​執行しなければ​ならない。

悔い改めによる清め

ダリン・H・オークス管長は次のように教えています。

悔い改めによる清めを受けるには，自分の罪を捨て，主に対し，また必要な場合に現世の主の判士に罪を告白する必要があります（教義と聖約58：43参照）。

またアルマは，「義の業を行いなさい」とも教えています（アルマ5：35）。

こうした事柄はすべて，聖文で度々招かれているように，キリストのもとに来ることを意味します。

わたしたちは，毎週安息日に聖餐を受ける必要があります。

その儀式においてわたしたちは聖約を交わし，祝福を受けます。

それは，救い主がわたしたちを招いておられるように完全な者となるうえで妨げとなる，すべての行いと望みを克服する助けとなります（マタイ5：48；3ニーファイ12：48参照）。

わたしたちは「神の御心に添わないものをすべて拒み，勢力と思いと力を尽くして神を愛する」ときに，「キリストによって完全になり」，主の血が流されたことによって「聖められ」て，「染みのない清い者となる」ことができるのです（モロナイ10：32－33）。

Doctrine and Covenants 88:127–41 consists of a separate revelation received a few days later on January 3, 1833. It was most likely combined with the first revelation because it commands Joseph Smith and his associates to set up a “school of the prophets” in the house of God (D&C 88:136). The School of the Prophets would eventually meet in the Kirtland temple, but the Saints began organizing it almost immediately after receiving this revelation. The School of the Prophets was the beginning of an educational structure that would eventually come to include all of the quorums and organizations affiliated with the Church, all of whom regularly meet in classes to receive instruction and inspiration.

Over the next few years, several different schools were organized in Kirtland and Missouri. The initial School of the Prophets met from January 23 to April 1, 1833, in an upper room of the Newel K. Whitney store in Kirtland. Joseph Smith presided over the school and selected Orson Hyde to be its teacher. This school consisted of a small group, probably never exceeding twenty-five people. Zebedee Coltrin, a member of the school, recalled that the teacher “saluted the brethren with upheld hands” as they entered and “they also answered with uplifted hands.” Attending the school was a holy activity for those involved, with Coltrin remembering that “before going to school we washed ourselves and put on clean linen.” Members of the school came fasting at sunrise and remained until around four o’clock in the evening.[1]

Dramatic spiritual manifestations occurred in this School of the Prophets. Zebedee Coltrin shared the following experience, which occurred in one of the meetings of the School of the Prophets:

At one of these meetings after the organization of the school . . . Joseph having given instructions, and while engaged in silent prayer, kneeling, with our hands uplifted[,] each one praying in silence, no one whispered above his breath, a personage walked through the room from east to west, and Joseph asked if we saw him. I saw him and suppose the others did[,] and Joseph answered[, “]that is Jesus, the Son of God, our elder brother.[”] Afterward Joseph told us to resume our former position in prayer, which we did. Another person came through; he was surrounded as with a flame of fire. He [Brother Coltrin] experienced a sensation that it might destroy the tabernacle as it was of consuming fire of great brightness. The Prophet Joseph said this was the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. I saw Him.

When asked about the kind of clothing the Father had on, Brother Coltrin said:

I did not discover his clothing[,] for he was surrounded as with a flame of fire, which was so brilliant that I could not discover anything else but his person. I saw his hands, his legs, his feet, his eyes, nose, mouth, head and body in the shape and form of a perfect man. He sat in a chair as a man would sit in a chair, but this appearance was so grand and overwhelming that it seemed I should melt down in his presence, and the sensation was so powerful that it thrilled through my whole system and I felt it in the marrow of my bones. The Prophet Joseph said: [“]Brethren, now you are prepared to be the apostles of Jesus Christ, for you have seen both the Father and the Son and know that they exist and that they are two separate personages.[”][2]
