Mrs. Nelson's Toy & Book Shop #1

I would like to introduce one of my best friends. Her name is Mrs. Judy Nelson.
She opened her own shop called "Mrs. Nelson's Toy and Book Shop" in La Verne, California in 1985 when she was 40. She used to be a nurse and a therapist at a children's hospital. After she got married, she had 4 children including twins, and she enjoyed children's books at the nearby book shops and libraries. I have known her for about 16 years. Her shop celebrated its "25th Anniversary" last year. I put up some pictures of her and her shop today. I have just started this blog and I am not used putting them up properly yet. I appreciate any help to make this blog more practical, informative, fun, and exciting. I would like to make this blog a foundation for warm human connection in the world. My ultimate goal, my mission of my life is to dedicate myself to "World Peace" I would like to plant the seeds of World Peace in children's minds and hearts through English children's books and literature here in Japan.
The unique part of her shop is that she has a service called " Mrs. Nelson's Book Fair Company." This is a premium, full-service book fair, and it's independently owned and community based. Her goal is to instill a love of books and reading in children and their parents. It holds many events like A program and Autographing with Peggy Rathmann who was awarded the Coldecott Medal for "Officer Buckle and Gloria," in which she presents a program, and the events are available for purchase and autographing for free. It provides story time, and writing poetry and stories contests that she presents gift certificates in 10-20 dollar amounts. They are also available for purchase at a generous discount to benefit the nearby schools, church or groups.

Her shop has provided families in her community with the best choices in books and toys for over 25 years. Its reputation is great for outstanding service and knowledgeable staff and have pleased parents, teachers and other professions in promoting family literacy.

私の大親友の紹介です。彼女の名前は、ジュディ・ネルソンさんです。彼女は、４０歳の時、"Mrs. Nelson's Toy and Book shop" と言う、個人の絵本とおもちゃのお店を開店しました。彼女は、元々、小児病院のリハビリ・セラピストでした。結婚して、双子を含む４人の子ども is avail生まれ、子ども達と本屋さんや図書館に通ううちに、地域に根ざした、子どものための良書を提供する本屋さんの必要を感じて自分で本屋さんを開店しました。１９９０年の事です。私が彼女にあったのは１６年ほど前で、去年２５周年を迎えました。今日、彼女の写真とお店の情報をスキャンしてブログに載せましたが、まだ初めての体験なので、それが右に大きく掲載されてしまいました。申し訳有りませんが、ご覧になる時は、左にスクロールしてご覧下さい。住所なども書いています。

彼女のお店の非常にユニークなところは
１　子ども、親、教師、司書に質の高い本を販売提供する。
２　子どもの本の専門店として、ブックトーク、絵本作家やイラストレイターを招いて、絵本の作者と子どもを結ぶイベント、「ブック・フェア・カンパニー」というサービスを行っている事です。これは、地域の学校に働きかけPTA、教師、司書の協力を得て、学校に２５００冊ほどの質の高い絵本を一週間ほどチュッ長販売する。なおこの売り上げの２０％－３０％は学校図書販売購入の費用として寄付をする。利益を度外視した、サービスをしています。
３　読書教育を高める運動を積極的に支援する。例えば、子ども、親、教師、司書に各種教育プログラムやワークショップを無料、或いは低価格で企画する。詩やお話創作コンテストの企画、図書館での多読書賞に、お店で使える図書クーポンを提供する。
