The lotus flower (or water lily in India) blooms in muddy fields and is not stained by mud. For that reason, it is the symbol of enlightenment. In ancient Indian literature, it is a symbol of love, and in Brahmanism, it is said that Brahma was born from a lotus flower.
If you look at a lotus flower from above, you will see that it already has seeds. In other flowers, seeds are formed after the flower blooms and the stamen is pollinated, but in the lotus, the seeds and the flower are simultaneous.
My followers sometimes ask me, “If I do something bad, will I be punished?” There is no doubt. It is a good teaching that good results come from good causes and bad results come from bad causes. However, there is a mind of dividing Good and Evil there. In the world of Buddha, there is no dividing Good and Evil.
For example, there is a cup of rice seeds here. Rice cultivation is said to have been introduced to Japan about 2000 years ago. During that time, there is no telling how much work and breeding has gone into the production of this rice. So, we need to think about an immeasurable value. The cause and effect are in the rice grain at the same time. Let’s eat a meal of rice with gratitude. Gratitude eliminates our worldly desire to divide Good and Evil.
