坐禅 Zazen

I asked a question to my master Daishin oshyo when entering Buddhism.

“Why don’t we study ‘Four noble truth’ or ‘The Noble Eightfold Path’ in the Zen dojo? There are almost no mentions of them in the ancient Zen masters’ writings.”

My master answered in this way.

“We do it on the premise that we already know them. Zazen has the power to surpass everything.”

私は入門したころ先師、大箴和尚にこのように尋ねたました。

「僧堂ではどうして八正道や四諦などを学ばないのですか。祖師の語録にもこれらはほとんど出てきません」と。

和尚はこのように答えてくれました。

「すでに分かっているという前提のもとでそのようにしているのだ。坐禅はすべてを凌駕する力がある」と。
