Today, let's learn about native English speakers expressions about time.
Once I was on the bus traveling to go to a very countryside in Canada, a young man, who is a native English speaker, in front of my seat suddenly asked me what time it was.
Can you guess what question he made to ask me the time?
It was not “What time is it now?”
(Of course, native speakers use this question often though.)
What he said was “Do you have the time?”
*You have to be careful the difference between “Do you have time?” and “Do you have the time?”

How to tell the time by native English speakers is also different!!
e.g. Half past six. / A quarter to six. / . A quarter past six.
These time expressions are used in our real life, as well as in the TOEIC test!!So, you should get used to these native English speakers' time expressions!
The best way to get used to time is to practice by speaking out loud the time!!

かつてカナダの田舎をバスで旅していた時、突然、前に座っている若い男性が時間を聞いてきました。
その時、彼は "What time is it now?"という表現ではなく、"Do you have the time?"という表現を使っていたのがとても印象に残っています。
＊ちなみに"the"が入るのと、入らないのとではまったく意味が異なるので注意！！（詳しくは上記の関連記事を参考）
また、時間を聞く表現のみでなく、時間を教える表現も少し違います。
例えば・・・
5:45なら A quarter to six
6:15なら A quarter past six
6:30なら Half past six
これらの時間の表現は、よくTOEICのリスニングでも出題されますので、是非慣れておきましょう。
慣れるのにベストな方法は“声に出して時間を言う”ことです！！
