South China Morning Post 最後のプライドは健在でした。本日10日付「Letters to the Editor」欄に掲載された、同紙記者、編集者115名による抗議書簡です。

Disturbed at events leading to colleague's resignation

Editorial staff of the South China Morning Post wish to convey their disquiet over the resignation of China editor, Willy Wo-Lap Lam.
We are disturbed at the events which led our colleague, after 12 years of distinguished work, to feel he had no option but to resign.
While we recognise the right of management to institute changes in the editorial department, we deplore the way in which the reorganisation of the China section gave Mr Lam the impression he was being sidelined, especially in sensitive circumstances just a few months after the unprecedented public criticism of him by former chairman Robert Kuok Hock Nien.
We are concerned about the impression this incident has conveyed to the public. We, the journalists, wish to reaffirm our commitment to editorial freedom.
