Good afternoon, everyone!! Today I'd like to tell you about one of my favorite hobbies. I love to sing karaoke!
Karaoke is a lot of fun because we can choose our favorite songs, and then try to sing them with lots of passion and energy. Karaoke means "empty (空)" + "orchestra (オーケストラ)". But most English-speakers probably don't understand the meaning. In North America, people usually say "carry oh key" when they pronounce the word. Also, many karaoke places in Canada and America are just a regular bar or club with a stage at the front.
That is too scary for me! I like the Japanese-style karaoke box much better. We can sit down and share the microphone with our friends. We don't have to go on a stage in front of many people who we don't know. Another thing about karaoke that I enjoy is the tambourine. In Japan, tambourines are often provided in the karaoke room. People can shake a tambourine during the songs, if they want to.
These days, it's not so common to sing karaoke because people are worried about the coronavirus. But I hope we can do this fun activity again soon. What's your favorite song to sing at karaoke??
