I grew up in a country where eating raw fish is a concept that is totally revolting and terrifying for others, but it doesn’t have to be. Last Saturday after work, my colleagues and I went to a shop where they serve different kinds of raw fish. It was my first time eating raw thinly sliced sardine, and it was surprisingly delicious.
I am not a fan of eating raw fish. But, when I started to live here in Japan, I learned how to eat and digest raw fish but with limitations. I can`t eat different kinds of raw fish served on a plate. But I do like fresh salmon and tuna. That`s why last Monday I had a sudden road trip and went to Matsushima. I ate in a shop where they serve fresh tuna and salmon. It was delicious.
It is comfortable for me to eat raw fish while drinking or eating it with hot rice. I can eat decent thinly sliced tuna and salmon because they have a clean flavor that almost vanishes in your mouth as you chew them.
I can say that I need more practice eating raw fish.
