Echizen lacquer ware is known in Fukui prefecture as the oldest lacquer ware producing area in Japan.
It is said that Echizen lacquer ware started because he was deeply impressed by the beauty of its luster and encouraged him when he presented a black lacquer bowl to Emperor Keitai during the Asuka period.
