Journal of a "Bride" in New York

I write my daily experiences outside Japan.

Cherry blossoms trees

2017-04-24 | 日記

Cherry blossoms are in full bloom!

They are very different from the ones in Japan,

but I truly enjoy the spring with cherry blossoms in view.

I have noticed for the first time in seven years since I moved to US

that this row of cherry blossom trees are only found in front of our apartment.

I really appreciate God's letting me live in such a place like this,

on top of a wonderful view of skyscraper.

Pastor from Tokyo has come!

2017-04-13 | 日記

The day when a pastor from Tokyo has arrived,

it has become warm like early summer.

We have rented a studio for a special service with the pastor as a main speaker;

we needed to set up the studio only for 30 minutes for the service,

so we had been praying for that.

On the day of service we got real help!

As nobody had been renting the studio before us,

we allowed to come in for preparations 15 minutes earlier,

and two people from another church came much earlier to help us;

on top of that, Machiko a member of our church called us to say that she could come earlier, too.

Now we had five people to set up the studio instead of me and my husband!

we are happy to see people who had been unsure of coming show up to attend the service.

Everybody was filled with joy when it was over.

I give thanks and praise to the Lord!

Prayer of Thanksgiving

2017-02-13 | 日記
My husband has had a coughing fit for the past several days.

He assumed that an allergy caused the cough, and took an over-the-counter allergy drug,

which relieved the symptom temporarily, but it got worse.

After all, it was asthma.

While suffering from asthma, he wanted to give up on preparing a message for the Sunday service,

but he held out.

He did give a message from the Bible in Sunday service.

On the Sunday night, he offered a thanksgiving prayer,

saying," I have given up anything in my life, realizing the limitations of my ability (due to hearing disablity).

However, I have hope in God, and I was able to hold out to prepare a message."

I thank the Lord for that!

Anyway, he said he really suffered, being unable to breathe many times.

I pray for the healing.

God is good all the time.

The Trip to Hawaii for two nights

2017-01-26 | 日記

We are leaving for Hawaii on the night flight.

Now we are waiting for the bus to come to get to Manhattan.

I get the photo taken when eating a red-beans rice ball on the monorail.

I am saying, "Stop it."

We arrive at Los Angeles at midnight and have to wait for eight hours to board the next fight.

I was praying that we could lie down to sleep.

Here I get the prayer answered! Portable beds provided at the airport gate!

We arrive at Honolulu Airport safely!

We go right to the venue.

From the terrace of our hotel we can see Waikiki Baptist Church which is the venue.

We manage to join the main group from Tokyo before the special service starts!

The service starts. Here is what is inside the church.

This is a rainbow seen from the hotel soon after the service!

It becomes brighter and brighter and remains over 30 minutes!

The second day

We are at Tantalus hill overlooking the city.

We can see Diamond Head far off.

Then a rainbow appears and it becomes brighter and brighter!

It is a double! These photos are not modified.

When we just leave this place, it starts to rain dogs and cats,

which we cause us to think as if we were there to get that rainbow shown! A rainbow of promise! A rainbow of blessing!

Commemorative photo

The special service held on the afternoon

It is filled with grace, hope and love.

The final day

The following day we are shown around the beautiful sightseeing spots.

I enjoy maccha (Japanese green tea) ice cream with my friends.

We say, "See you all again."

I am grateful for the many blessings I have received in Hawaii!

The-end-of-year soba

2016-12-30 | 日記
The retired ear doctor, who was my husband's doctor

asked us if we'd like to eat out to have the-end-of-a-year soba noodles (Japanese people customarily eat soba at the end of a year).

I told him I could make one instead.

Todya in response to his request, I brought him soba and a traditional Japanese new-year dish.

Actually I tried to make it look like one.

The doctor enjoyed it so much and told me he hadn't eaten this special dish for many years.

He was very grateful,

and said to us, "Why don't we have the time like this not just once a year but twice or three times?"

Anyway, we have been praying that he would receive baptism in His time.

Terrorism alert

2016-12-24 | 日記

This is the entrance of our apartment house.

At this season of the year, socks with the names of the doormen are on display,

asking us silently for tips.

Yesterday's news told us there was a terror alert for churches in the U.S. against ISIS;

so my husband told me that we were going to take a bus to Manhattan the next day instead of driving.

I don't know why we should take a bus but a tight security would make us find a parking spot on the street.

In any event, may God protect all the churches in the U.S.

" The fear of the Lord is a fountain of life,

turning a person from the snares of death.
" (Proverbs 14:27)

Thanksgiving Day

2016-11-24 | 日記
Thanksgiving Parade was held in Manhattan on full alert against terrorism;

thankfully, it was over without incident.

We had thanksgiving dinner with Mr. & Mrs. T at our apartment.

In our home, we have ham, Oden, Sushi instead of turkey.

We are grateful for the enjoyable time with them!

Pray for the peace of Jerusalem

2016-10-03 | 日記

We made a live appearance online in the “Pray for the peace of Jerusalem” meeting, held in Tokyo.

Just for one minute and half.

Just in case, we needed to record a message video in advance, which was quite a task for us,

However, because of that assignment, we were able to pray on online live, without feeling nervous.

May the true peace come to Jerusalem, and to the whole world

in Jesus Chrsit

Bombing at Manhattan

2016-09-18 | 日記
The explosion occurred in the Chelsea, NYC Saturday night, which we were unaware of

since we were attending a Sunday service online of Tokyo Antioch Church, which is Sat. night in NY time.

While attending the service, a friend from Tokyo contacted me, asking if I was Okay, then I got to know about that.

The following day, on Sunday afternoon we headed to Manhattan.

Lincoln tunnel was strangely empty and it looked so weired.

It looked the same as usual in Manhattan though more police cars and police officers were there.

A Korean friend Ms. S came to attend our church service, and shared the story that happened to her last night.

She was supposed to visit a store around 8 o’clock last night in the vicinity of where the explosion occurred,

but on second thought she didn’t go and returned home instead.

Later she learned she might have been involved in the chaotic scene of the terror attack but that she got protected.

After the service, we prayed with Ms. S that all the churches and members, police, security personnel would be protected.

Blessing by giving thanks

2016-08-28 | 日記
Mrs. A and her twin daughters of our church shared with me one of the blessings they had had when they were in Japan.

On the returning day, Aug. 8th, they were supposed to leave Japan for NY by Delta airlines.
As they boarded the plane and watched a movie, the plane stayed put and didn’t take off.
Meanwhile, the in-flight announcement said that the passengers should get off the plane since it was not taking off.
Mrs A thought why such a thing like this happened to her family, but every time a negative thought came to her mind,
she reminded herself of giving thanks in any situation as God says to do so in the Bible.

As they were getting off the plane, one of the pilots talked to her twin daughters,
saying, “Have you ever seen a cockpit?” and showed it to them. What a privilege !

Due to the outage at Delta airlines co. headquartered in Atlanta,
US Delta airlines had bee cancelled worldwide.
She was thinking that she and her daughters had to spend some time at the airport in utter chaos,
but then, a friend of hers sent her a text message asking her if the airplane flied.
As she sent her back a message, explaining about the situation they were in,
her friend drove over to the airport to pick them up and
let them stay at her house which was located near the airport.
The following morning her friend served breakfast, drove them to the airport.
They found that Delta flights to NY and to one more city were scheduled to fly,
although the flights to LA or other cities were still suspended.

Not only their flight to NY was secured, but they got a voucher of $200.00 per person issued from the Delta !
She was so glad to receive this unexpected gift
because she thought she could now afford to plan a birthday trip for her twin daughters in November !

She says she almost complained but that she is glad to have given thanks to God instead to trust Him.
