Journal of a "Bride" in New York

I write my daily experiences outside Japan.

Japanese Gingers

2010-10-25 | 日記
I visited an uncle of my husband’s living in the State of NY.
Our main purpose of that visit was to pick Japanese gingers.

Actually I've found Japanese gingers were tasty for the first time since I came to the U.S.

My uncle who lives in the area where even deer come over
plants Japanese gingers in his backyard.

I couldn't tell where Japanese gingers were sprouting up,
but my husband and uncle found them and picked them.

They were happy to find them in spite of a late season for them.

I've made sweet pickled gingers. So delicious.
Thank God for this blessing.

Praising Band

2010-10-14 | 日記
We have a praising band in our church, called “Comforter.”

Its members are the one God will bring to us.

Meanwhile, people who play the piano and the flute have joined us.

Then, two little members who are very promising have brought “flutes” with them.

They are the sticks to resemble flutes!!

Those little ones are stepping forward as a member of the praising band.

Visitors

A family of a friend of mine in Virginia called us on Sunday night.

They were at the Japanese store near our apartment for shopping.

My husband was tired but hearing from them helped my husband wide awake. He was joyful and was not tired anymore.

I got a hustle on to have them stay overnight in our apartment room.

It was a Columbus Day the following day and schools were off, but my husband had to go work.

So I got to give them a short tour in Manhattan.

It was very crowded on a holiday and with a Columbus Day Parade in Manhattan.

I showed them around somehow as we had planned, with a map in the hand.

I did it, with the help from my husband on the mobile phone and from the husband of my friend's.

Virginia and New York look very close on the American map, but actually they are not so close.

“We really had a good time with you guys. Let us know when you come by again. See you again.”
