Commemorative Service to remeber the first martyrdom in Japan

2016-02-05 | 日記
On Feb. 5, 1957, an incident caused the father of the Imperial adviser Hideyoshi to issue an order
to arrest Christians.

Then, 26 Christians including a couple of missionaries were killed for their faith;
they were hanged on the crosses at the hill of Nishizaka, Nagasaki (an old execution grounds).

Our churches holds an annual commemorative service on Feb. 5,
having been led by the Lord to remember their faith and to learn from their footsteps.
We are grateful that we participated in that service live online at the midnight of Feb. 5 in NY time.

The monument sacred to the memory of the 26 Christians has been built in the park,
which once was an execution site.

I have been there several times; when I prayed there, mysteriously I feel joy pouring into my heart.
It reminds me of the joy of the heaven and makes me feel that the heaven is for real.

Those Christians had a chance to flee but chose to take up their crosses;
What enabled them to obey God to the end was their hope and assurance of the heaven
and, above all, God's special help and grace.

My husband finally says he'd like to be there sometime,
so I hope we as a couple would participate in that commemorative service
to renew our decisions to follow Him to the end sometime soon.
