What does the "snake" want to do with himself? Taiwan should hold a referendum to choose between “independence” and “integration into China”. If Taiwanese choose independence, the United States and Western countries should recognize "Taiwan independence."

“Half-killing a snake” means to torture a snake “half-deadly” instead of killing it “on the spur of the moment”. It is an example of "paining" without putting "settlement". This is the current state of Taiwan.

In the "One China Policy", the snake is Taiwan. It is the United States that makes Taiwan "half dead". The United States should not kill Taiwan but free it from China, but the United States has contradictory views on both China and Taiwan.

"Taiwan Independence" Even after Japan's defeat in 1945, the Taiwanese independence movement did not occur, and many Taiwanese accepted the "return to the motherland" to the Republic of China without much resistance. When the Republic of China began to rule, many Taiwanese were disappointed with the corrupt national government and gradually became aware of the difference between Taiwanese and "Chinese".

The post-war Taiwanese independence movement started from this point of departure, overcoming the Republic of China system and rejecting even the rule of the People's Republic of China on the mainland. In other words, they are being "developed" as a "movement for living" as a "Taiwanese" rather than a "Chinese".

If the Taiwanese government officially declares its independence from the ROC system, the People's Republic of China, which has insisted on "one China," will lose the "foundation" to "unify" Taiwan. Therefore, China has declared Taiwan's "armed liberation" and continues to put pressure on Taiwan.

The United States and Japan, fearing a large-scale war, take a cautious stance on "Taiwan independence," but there are "pro-Taiwan factions" in the governments and private sectors of these countries. This "problem" is completely different from "Hong Kong".

On January 1, 1979, Democratic President Jimmy Carter established diplomatic relations with China and severed diplomatic relations with the Republic of China. The White House's "this policy" made the "distance" between the Soviet Union and China decisive. It also served as an important stepping stone for American companies to acquire the "huge market" in mainland China.

「蛇の生殺し=half-killing a snake」とは、「一思い」に殺さずに、「半死半生」にして苦しめること。 「物事の決着」をつけずにおいて「苦しめる」ことの例えです。台湾を現状はこの言葉だ。

「１つの中国政策」で、蛇は台湾です。台湾を「半死半生」にしているのは米国です。米国は台湾を殺さずに中国から解放させればよいが、米国は中国と台湾の両方にに矛盾した見解をしている。

「台湾独立」1945年の日本敗戦後も台湾独立運動は起こらず、中華民国への「祖国復帰」を多くの台湾人が大きな抵抗もなく受け入れた。実際に中華民国による統治が始まると、台湾人の多くは腐敗した国民政府に失望し、台湾人と「中国人」の違いを次第に自覚するようになった。

戦後の台湾独立運動は、このような出発点に立ち、中華民国体制を克服して、大陸の中華人民共和国による支配をも拒絶する運動。即ち、「中国人」ではなく「台湾人」として「生きるための運動」として「展開」されている。

台湾政府が中華民国体制からの正式な独立宣言をした場合、「一つの中国」を主張してきた中華人民共和国は、台湾を「統合」する「根拠」を失う。そのため中国は台湾の「武力解放」を明言して、台湾への圧力を続けている。

アメリカや日本は、大規模な戦乱を恐れ、「台湾独立」に慎重な立場を取っているが、これらの国々の政府や民間に「親台湾派」が存在する。この「問題」は「香港」とは全く違う。

1979年1月1日に民主党のジミー・カーター大統領は中国との国交を樹立して、中華民国との国交を断絶した。ホワイトハウスの「この方針」は、ソ連と中国の「離間」を決定的なものとした。そして、アメリカ企業が中国大陸の「巨大な市場」を獲得するための重要な布石ともなった。
