Day 17
I found nice wild hot spring.
ナイスな温泉を発見。
This area is called "Semi Onsen".
この辺りは瀬見温泉と呼ばれる。
Benkei first discovered this hot spring after he cut the rock with his Japanese halberd "Semi Maru".
かの武蔵坊弁慶が薙刀「蝉丸」で岩を斬り、温泉を見つけたという。
I wonder Semi Onsen's "Semi" derived from "Semi Maru".
瀬見温泉の「瀬見」は蝉丸に由来するのだろう。
I couldn't gather the courage to take a bath in front of the houses...
立ち並ぶ家を前に温泉に入る勇気が出なかった。

酒田市。倉庫群。
Rice was stocked and shiped on Japanese Sea.
米が貯蔵され、日本海で輸送されていた。
The structure of the roof was unique.

Yamagata Pref. is divided into 4 parts.
山形県は4つの地域に分けられる。
The north west part including Sakata City is called "Shonai".
酒田を含む北西部は「庄内」地方と呼ばれる。
This area has been famous for the rice production.
この地域は昔から米の生産で有名だ。
I could learn that history in Shonai rice history museum.
写真の博物館でその歴史を学ぶことができる。
I went up north to Yusa town.
北上し、遊佐町を目指す。

I got water from Mt. Tyokai which was located between Yamagata and Akita.
山形県と秋田県の県境に位置する鳥海山。そこから流れてくる水を飲む。
The water journey intersected my journey.
水の旅と私の旅が交差する。
Yusa Town. The water was clean.
遊佐町。水がきれいだ。
I was surprised with this color.
この色には本当に感動をした。
I went south to Tsuruoka City.
鶴岡市まで南下。

I could not find this national treasure in the Japanese history textbook.

Yamagata Castle
山形城
Yoshiaki Mogami controled this area.
最上義光の居城。

文翔館
Former prefectural office and assembly building dating from 1916.
旧県庁舎、県会議事堂。
Now it was hometown pavilion.
今は郷土史資料館であった。

宝珠山 立石寺
Basho Matsuo visited here.
松尾芭蕉も訪れた。
He composed his famous haiku.
かの「閑さや・・・」の名句はこの地で詠んだとされる。
Ginzan Hot Spring
銀山温泉
Once a lot of silver was mined here.
かつての銀の産地。
We could see how people got silver.
採掘の跡を見学できる。
It looked like a crator. The way of "Yakihori" was used by heating and cooling.
えぐり取られているような感じ。加熱と急冷による「焼き掘り」という手法が用いられたそう。

Sendai City.
仙台市。
Masamune Date.

Murata Town. Streets of warehouses.
村田町。蔵の町並み。
Murata was the safflower distribution area.
紅花の集積地だったそう。
Shiroishi Castle.
白石城。
Ouetsu 31 feudal domains alliance was formed in this castle.
奥羽越三十一列藩同盟が結ばれたお城だと知った。

I went over the mountains and moved to West.
山を越え、西へ。

蔵王のお釜。
I was suprised as if I had come to the different planet.
まるで別の惑星のような光景だった。

Day 14
I went out Iwate Pref. and into Miyagi Pref.
岩手から宮城へ。
First I visited Kesennuma City.
気仙沼市。
Here, I found white bank which looked new. I thought it was built after Great East Japan Earthquake.
堤防が白く新しい。 東日本大震災の後に建てられたのではないか。
Near this golf park, there was the school that suffered from earthquake and tsunami.
画像のゴルフパークの近くに学校が震災遺構として保存されている。
This place told me what happend here and no one can live without other help.
ここで起きたこと、人は人との協力なしでは生きていけないことを心に刻む。
If I live in Japan, I need to think a better way to avoid natural disaster.
そして、もし日本で生きていくのであれば、自然災害と向き合い続けなければならない。

松島。
Sukashi Bridge.
すかし橋。
The explanation board said this structure made the state that "your body and mind are not disturbed" before visiting the Buddhist hall.
お堂を訪れる前にこの橋を渡り、身体と心を落ち着けることができる。
瑞巌寺五大堂
Masamune Date constructed this Buddist hall in 1604.
現存しているのは、伊達政宗公が1604年に建てたもの。
The sign board said "The "Godai Myoo-zo (Statues of Five Wisdom Kings)" inside are put on exhibit only once every thirty-three years". Next time it may be possible in 2039.
説明書きによると、お堂に安置される五大明王像は33年に一度御開帳とのこと。
