ビジネス英語 - 電話で相手の名前を尋ねるひとこと

Anyway, today, I'd like to pick up a telephone expression that you can use in a business situation.

I know that it's difficult to talk in English on the phone, and sometimes you might want to avoid picking up the phone.
It's because...
what if unknown person calls???
what if you can't catch what his/her name is???
If you can't catch who the caller is, there is a chance that you might have a little panic!!
In this case, the following expressions might help you!!
"Excuse me, who is this?"
"Can I ask who is calling, please?"
These expressions above will help you ask the caller's name on the phone.
Just take a deep breath & relax before picking up the phone!!

自分の経験からも言えることですが、英語での電話応対は難しいビジネスタスクの１つだと思います。

例えば、“知らない（英語を話す）相手からの電話だったら？”、“もし相手の名前や用件を聞き取れなかったら？”など、いろいろと考えてしまいますと、少しパニックになってしまい、電話を取りたくない方もいらっしゃるかと思います。

このような場合には、まず、落ち着いて“相手の名前を聞くこと”が大事になります。

そんな時に使える“お名前をお伺いできますか？”という英語表現がこちら：

"Excuse me, who is this?"
"Can I ask who is calling, please?"

上記の表現を上手く使えるようになりますと、少しリラックスして電話応対ができると思います！！

少しずつ英語での電話に慣れていきましょう！！
