It is a common sense that if we would like to explore the relationship between industrialization and urbanization in the second half of the nineteenth century, then it is a must to discuss the critical events that have taken place in that period. Detailed speaking, what is a milestone in the second half of the nineteenth century lies in the second industrial revolution as turned up due to the rapid development of science and technology. And the major sign for the second industrial revolution is the electric power’s appearance into the production field as a new energy to take in place of steam power. And we can have a fair knowledge that the electric power will later develop to be the main power for machine factories so that it can later contribute to the formation of industrialization in a way or another.
The turning up of electric power has made the second half of the nineteenth century step into the age of electricity in which industrialization began to develop better and better step by step. And we can have a fair knowledge that the development of industrialization will definitely call for the participation of more and more people in the increasing factories so as to lead to the development of industrialization. That is to say, the participation of the great majority of human beings will in the meantime cause the decrease of the number of human beings that work in the farms in the rural areas. Or maybe it can be put in another way that more and more people’s being away from farms at the first place and then flooding into the city to pick up needed knowledge for quicker adjusting into the running process of industries.
People’s flooding into the cities in a large sum contributes to the formation of urbanization sooner or later. Moreover, the gradual development of industrialization will later attract more and more people from the rural places to come into the cities so as to result in the further development of urbanization more or less. If it is in the way around, then the whole situation will be completely different as well.
Conclusion
Thus we can say that urbanization is moved forward by industrialization and the process of industrialization is actually the process of urbanization as well. But while on the other hand, urbanization will have adverse effects toward industrialization as it is the carrier of industrialization in that human beings are the primary contributing factors of the development of industrialization. We can draw a natural conclusion that we should combine the development of both industrialization and urbanization and push forward both of them at the same time for a win-win condition.
