What are the risks of fast food

What are the risks of fast food

Fast food, which was originally emerged in Germany and popularized in the 1950s in the United States because of its convenience, is a symbol of this fast-paced modern society. At the moment when it appeared, there were only several options for the public to choose which one suits their appetite. However, with economic, trade, and culture globalization, it is now composed of a wide range of food types such as hamburgers, French fries and pizza, etc. What is more, this diversification varies throughout the world. For example, the fast food culture merged with traditional Chinese food culture, which creates a wholly new style of fast food in China. Similarly, other parts of the world all have their own explanations about fast food.

When it comes to a new food product, there is always one aspect to contemplate: how the producers sell their product with maximum profit? That will largely depend on food advertising that people use some methods to advertise those foods in a delicious and attractive way. However, this situation makes me wonder that if food advertising really carries beneficial influences on the public, especially our youngsters. “They also are right to be concerned about the message most food advertising sends to our young people and try to counter that with nutrition education and some modicum of control over what foods our kids can buy while they are in the hands of out educators.”(King) Those effects food advertising brings to our young generation can be vicious. Advertisers could make fake images and lie to the public with such statement that fast food contains the daily necessary nutrition that one person needs in order to be healthy. It will be difficult for the young to distinguish whether advertising is giving the correct or just misleading information. Therefore, it is significant that parents should keep an eye on these various food advertisements.

Apart from its vicious advertisement effects, why fast food became so popular among many countries? “With efficient service, low prices, and casual atmosphere, fast food seems like the ideal ‘all-American’ choice. In fact, over 25 percent of Americans consume fast food every day.” (Ransohoff) According to this statement, some obvious merits such as high efficiency, suitable price, and casual atmosphere account for the popularity of fast food. In addition, if you are looking for a quick, easy meal to grab on the go, fast food is the common solution. An ever-decreasing period of time is a usual thing for young workers particularly white collars. They have less and less time spent on commuting and foods. Under this circumstance, the high-calories and inexpensive fast food will cater for their situation. What is more, almost every fast food chain provides consumers with take-out service, which even eases the burden of modern citizens.

Although fast food is popular in our community, most people do not consider it as their healthiest option. Because there are many disadvantages of fast food including potential heart or weight issues that can permanently damage your health. The risks brought by eating fast food include diabetes, obesity, cancer, cardiovascular disease, stroke and negative effects on children. In fact, those significant health effects are often more pronounced in children. “Today, almost one in four kids is obese, putting them at risk for, among other things, diabetes and cardiovascular disease.” (Rahul K.Parikh) This also shows obesity problem will no longer only be the adults’ issue. Take children obesity as an example: at their young ages, the consumption of fast food on a daily basis could result in hypertension, high cholesterol, and asthma. Furthermore, many fast foods actually lack nutrition, which causes possible impaired growth and development. All of these diseases could be deadly detrimental to our young generation.

Dated back to the moment when fast food was originally produced. At first, the whole industry had the same operation standards to produce fast food. However, as time went by, some profit-driven producers started to add addicting ingredient to make it more attractive. After this procedure, fast food even became more irresistible to the consumer. By doing that, some producers made a big fortune, which became the negative example within the fast food industry. Nowadays, there is no guarantee that our fast food is one hundred percent safe. That is the reason why more concerns related to fast food are emerging.

On account of these facts, how to address these fast food-related problems has become principal issue. Firstly, for the consumers, moderation becomes the key, and it is acceptable to indulge a craving for French fries every now and then, but to stay healthy, it is wise not to make it a regular habit. Only make a balance between fast food and traditional nutritious food, can we enjoy the fabulous taste and keep health simultaneously. In addition, from the government’s point of view, some legislation must be introduced in order to enhance entire industry’s food quality. For example, the law related to addicting ingredient should be introduced, and the proportion of addicting ingredient must be settled, which means producers could only add a certain percentage of addictive things to make sure consumers will not have an addiction. Last but not least, slowing down your pace of life, taking more time to choose when you are in a fast food chain. “The Slow Food movement is a worldwide organization of ‘food eaters.’ It is committed to promoting the diversity of local and regional quality food, produced and marketed in ways that guarantees farmers a fair price and protects the environment and the natural landscape.” (Ikerd) Through this movement, producers actually are capable of balancing quality food and the protection of environment.

Above all, there are various types of fast food. Therefore, some regulations are needed to make this fast food industry standardized. When it comes to modern healthy lifestyle, fast food caters for the fast-paced society. Only if you choose the correct and reasonable food, can it be nutritious and healthy as well. Under this circumstance, there is no need to prohibit fast foods, and it can still exist as the symbol of our communities.

The world's top film masterJacques Tuernier

The world's top film masterJacques Tuernier

Jacques Tuernier, who is one of the world's top film masters, was born in Paris, France on November 12, 1904 and died on December 19, 1977. When he was nine years old, he moved to the United States with his father. And then he worked the back and forth between France and the United States. However, after the World War II broke out, he left France.

Jacques Tuernier ,who is best known for a series of low-budget horror films he made for RKO Studios, is one of the most outstanding directors in the world, just as said in the The International encyclopedia of film “Whatever the subject-matter, Tourneur brought a sharp camera eye and a vivid atmospheric sense to his work.” There are two major things that influenced Jacques Tuernier and his film career in his whole life. One is his father, Maurice Tourneur ,who is a French film director and screenwriter. The time after Jacques Tuernier’s arrival in the United States, he served as an assistant of his father, from who he had learned a lot of knowledge and technique. What’s more, he also got inspiration from his father. That’s what contributed him to be a outstanding director in the world. The other thing that had an important influence on Jacques Tuernier is the Radio Keith Orpheum, one of the eight major companies in the the United States’ film industry in the 1930s. After Tourneur was dropped by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer in 1941, one of the five largest studios in Hollywood, he was picked up by Lewton to film several acclaimed low-budget horror films for RKO Studios including Cat People and I Walked with a Zombie, which are the two of the most wonderful works by Jacques Tuernier.

“Out of the Past”, which was released in 1947, in one of the most successful by Jacques Tuernier in film noir. Most crime film is promoted by the positive sequence, but film noir is reverse. The ending of the protagonist in the film noir is usually doomed early on by the destiny, bad luck, or a character flaw. The protagonist is evil at the beginning. However, they just bury their deep dark side, until the reality make them expose to it again. On the contrary, the good people are driven to do wrong thing in the crime film. The actor in the film noir leader " Out of the Past" tries his best to ues a new city, work and lovers to make a clean break with his past weakness and live a new life. Robert Mitchum starred in this film. His tired eyes, his short discourse, his guy image wrapped in cold tough are the best logos of the film noir. The trouble has not been invited and come when the protagonist has not appeared but the story has began already. The man who comes from the past of the protagonist sees a gas station opened by him, which pulls him into the past involuntarily. The film incorporates romance, intrigue and reality. The first part of the film describes a romantic Valentine's elopement , which is extremely intoxicating and impulsive. Although structure of the the murder story in the latter part simple, its has compact layout and makes people excited. At the ending, the film pulls all these dramatic plot back to the character's the most fundamental destiny and character themes. We can not unadmirable such a film that is designed to have those transforms. Perhaps, this is the best results of the game among the three writers of totally different styles . The film can be said to be smoky. However, all the film noir, which are produced even in recent years, have butts everywhere. Because cigarettes and film noir have always been the same thing. But few movies can utilize the cigarettes to such an extend. It’s not excessive to say that they are contesting with cigarettes in the smoking scenes between Kirk Douglas and Robert Mitchum. Jacques Turner hold good on that kind of atmosphere and the excellent plot makes the film a "black film" masterpiece. There is another a notable feature of the film that the shadow of the figures make the figures always appear in the dark. The film also pointed out the weakness of men, who tend to make themselves fall when facing with beautiful women. While women will inevitably become tools. Love in that world has become a luxury. To create an atmosphere, the scenes of the film always choose to be the night. The shadow make people face an uncertain future fear. At the end of the film, the opponents play between girlfriend Ann and Jimmy contains an ambiguous silence. The film's moral ambiguity has thus emerged. I do not want to divulge too much plot, but Jimmy was the answer to the security of what he believed, or he thinks it is best for her answer?

The three main types of imperialism

The three main types of imperialism

Colonialism develops from the word”colony”, which means the super powers set colonies in poor places. For pursuit of interests and land expansion, they impose their cultures and policies on the indigenous people who had no power to against, which have large impact on the life of local people. What’s more, during conquer process, they have a sense of suoprioty which make them think that all the local people should submit to their superior power. During European colonial period, which started from 16th century, many explorers of those countries came to find new world with the development of marine industry. Several European powers such as Portugal, Spain and Britain became the colony empire continuously. They established colonies in Asia, Africa and the Americas. Let us use Portugal as an example. Portugal’s colonization last about 600 years which was a very long colonization history in the world. Initiated by impulse to fortune, exploit of outside world resources and new ideas about capitalism which came from the European Renaissance, many explores began their adventures. Since then, their steps of colonization did not stop until 19th century when those maritime powers began to disappear. Portugal once was so strong that it possessed Europe, Africa, the Atlantic Ocean, the Americas, the Pacific Ocean (1). British colonies began in 16th, with the same pursue as Portugal and their sense of superiority to spread cultures. The Kingdom of Great Britain came into being in the early 17th, and the range of their territory became bigger. There had different kinds of control in the colonization process, but all of which had an influence on local people’s lifestyle. Since 19th, lots of colonies began to gain independence and the British Empire declined gradually.
When it comes to imperialism which will confuse us because of its similar meaning to colonialism. It is an “unequal human and territorial relationship, usually in the form of an empire, based on ideas of superiority and practices of dominance, and involving the extension of authority and control of one state or people over another”, However, colonialism focus more on the economy and the interests while imperialism is a state policy which indicates the ambition of countries and concentrate on both financial and ideological reasons. If a country want to promote imperialism, It is kind of like the country is the center which manipulating subordinate and peripheral countries. Next, we will focus on the new trade imperialism which happened in 1700s to 1800s, and it arrived its height in the mid of 18th century which was the early Victoria era. It seemed that those colonists lost interest in colonies that was a “burden” to the development of the mother countries. Government was given rights to take measures, impose levy tax, monopolize goods such as opium and salt. In general, there are three aspects about the new trade imperialism. They are less colonies, decentralization of power and free economy development. For example, English withdrew its army in Transvaal and Orange which located in South Africa and used to be colonies of England and England abandoned the opinions of controlling South Africa. What’s more, in 1865, the Committee of South Africa concluded that keeping just one immigrant site while others immigrant sites were removed after listening to many people’s advice. However, the reality was not the same as it was supposed to (2). The reason of abandoning the colonies was not for the free imperialism, it was for the interests of the colonists who wanted to realize the optimum of the interests. The abandon of colonies in South Africa did not mean free development of colonies and there were more immigrant sites, more colonies.
Finally, new imperialism that mainly indicates latter half of the 1800s and into the first half of the 1900s will be discussed. Compared with old imperialism since 17th century which aims to make the mother countries wealthy by using colonies as supplies and production places, new imperialism means those colonies or developing countries are the places of raw materials, and those raw materials will be transported to mother countries or developed countries to process and then sell the products all over the world (3). What is more, the status of colonies and western countries is in the same level and both develops severely rely on agriculture according to old imperialism. In the new imperialism system, there is a great gap between the colonies and western countries. The western countries conquer colonies with advanced weapons and broke the limits of those countries. In general, old imperialism focuses more on economic plundering while new imperials is ambitious and wants to achieve political purposes. We can use Germany as an example, in 1890, during William II reigning, he promoted the expansion of colonies and wanted to set up more colonies for political purpose. More colonies, more power. It also indicated that Germany not only became the super power of the Europe but all over the world. France took similar policies to expand colonies overseas to improve the international status, which was encouraged by Germany who aimed to make conflict between France and England, both would compete the colonies for the sake of more interests. Apart from this, Europe also wanted to low down the revenge attitude of France since French Revolution by promoting France’s expansion overseas. Therefore, as you can see, for various political purposes, new imperialism was followed and practiced.

Abstract of the Journal of Volcanology and Geothermal Research

Abstract of the Journal of Volcanology and Geothermal Research
The background of this study is the rapid population growth in Latin America and Asia, which indicates that an increasingly number of people will be living in areas where may be seriously affected by eruption of volcanoes. As volcanic eruptions and knock-on effects have potential of causing not only casualties but also economic loss, it is both significant and necessary for scientists to decipher the nature and interpret the episodes of unrest. Therefore, this study has four major objectives: (1) to identify and classify repeated patterns of unrest to establish; (2) whether particular types of volcanoes display preferred patterns of unrest; (3) whether the length of repose affects preferred patterns of unrest; (4) whether pre-eruptive patterns can be distinguished from non-eruptive patterns of unrest[ P184].
The statistics used in this study are primarily collected from the Smithsonian Institution Global Volcanism Program (GVP), and also selected some reported activities from other available information in the literature published by the GVP. Meanwhile, the study also created a database which includes 228 volcanoes. By analyzing the database, this study mainly focuses on four primary sub-aerial types: large caldera, complex, shield, and stratovolcano, and finds out five primary unrest indicators: ground deformation, degassing, changes at a crater lake, thermal anomaly and seismicity. Meanwhile, the definitions for response variables are divided into three types: unrest duration, unrest indicators and inter-eruptive period. Though this study is to identify possible temporal patterns in unrest and analysis the differences between various types of volcanoes, employing standard procedures to calculate the statistics, during the process of statistics analyzing, there is no possibility to avoid biases, such as reporting bias and statistical bias.
The result of the study bases on the categories of definitions for response variables. In the unrest duration, nearly half of the data on reported unrests was missing, and after about one month of reported unrest almost 50% of stratovolcanoes erupted. In the median average duration of large calderas, unrest prior to eruption was about twice as long, and shield volcanoes have a significantly longer unrest period before the onset of eruption, compared to both large calderas and stratovolcanoes.[ P188] In inter-eruptive period, about 13% of statistics is missing, which covers different volcano types. In the inter-eruptive period, the study finds that the mean length of inter-eruptive period is 18,326 with a large standard deviation of 42,710.[ P189] It is also indicated that outliers are mainly connected with stratovolcanoes for both pre-eruptive unrests and non-eruptive unrests; large calderas and complex volcanoes for pre-eruptive unrest are also included. Consequently, the classes of unrest are classifies into four types: re-weakening unrest (key feature: deformation and seismic), prolonged unrest (key feature: long-term ground deformation), pulsatory unrest (key feature: seismic activity) and sporadic unrest (key feature: short-lived, intermittent activity and no apparent).
The conclusion of this study is the hypothesis which indicates that with a long period of quiescence between eruptions, volcanoes can undergo prolonged periods of unrest before eruption cannot be proved by the former analysis. Most eruptions during the investigation period occurred within a relatively modest amount of time after the first documented unrest, with a median average unrest duration of 79 days across all volcano types considered, regardless of the length of the inter-eruptive period.[ P195] Although the findings of this study may not be representative of unrest behavior during centuries, they could have an strong impact on hazard assessment, risk mitigation and scenario planning when the unrest of volcanoes threaten human beings in the future.

Refuse to be a Addiction dude

下面为大家整理一篇优秀的essay代写范文 -- Refuse to be a Addiction dudee,本文讲述毒品是一个麻烦的全球性问题。

Refuse to be a Addiction dude

State
Drug is a troublesome global issue. All countries in the world are attaching importance to it, and making an attempt to forbid it. However, governments always fail to ban the drug due to the huge benefit behind it. Though as a normal person, it’s difficult for me to tackle the issue at a national level; I still desire to build a warm as well as effective website to help and encourage people who want to abandon the drugs, and contribute my effort to solve the problem.

Problems
It is well known that drug issue kills millions. Meanwhile, drug also brings about poverty and broken families. Most families and drugs addicts under detoxification lack of powerful outside help and support, which eventually leads to failures on detoxification. There are also drug users who try hard to get rid of drugs but gradually lose confidence when getting to know too many failure cases. Some others can’t afford to enter drug rehabilitation centers and give up. All these people need help.

What can I do?
Two approaches should be concerned in order to prevent drug problems. First, restrict the drug trafficking. Due to the great benefit involved in drug selling, it’s not easy for a normal person like me to change the status quo. Hence, I am not going to focus on this part in my website, but certain information will still be mentioned. What I concentrate on is the second approach, that is, to encourage drug addicts to quit from drugs.
It’s essential for people with drug dependence to have a spiritual companion who is also quitting drugs. What my website can offer is providing successful cases worldwide to positively influence and build confidence for people who need detoxification. Besides, a platform will be established for people who are quitting drugs and who have already succeeded to share their experience. Of course, we need to find some people with great willpower in case they relapse when reading articles describing drug experience. We will definitely verify the content of the platform in case drug traffickers leave contact messages and try to make people relapse.
Here are some more detailed problems. Supports from families and friends are significant during the detoxification procedure, that’s the reason why we encourage them to leave messages on the website. For families members who are deeply troubled by drugs, our website can also provide platforms for them to share their feelings, which indirectly enable the drug addicts to hear their voice. Admittedly there will be no any positive impact to accuse their relapse. For drug addicts, even new attempt requires great courage, especially when experiencing countless failures. To stop this negative influence, we will remove the accusation and criticism.
Besides the online activities, we could properly organize offline activities. Sports meeting are beneficial for drugs addicts, which can distract them from drugs. We can invite professional drug detoxification organizations to participate our activities and this offers opportunities to low-income families. In addition, we can offer material rewards to people who successfully abandon the drugs.
We can also make discussions on current policies about drugs. For governments, suggestions from drug addicts are more realistic. Governments probably lack of effective information while what these drug addicts offer will certainly have a huge impact. For more people who are struggling against drugs, the actions from authorities can affect and save more families and lives.

In all, as drug trafficking is regarded a serious issue at present, both governments and individuals should joint efforts to help tackle it. Internet is a powerful medium for us to share information, emotions and opinions. Our website will certainly be a strong supplementary tool in the battle of drugs.
