STARRY
I went to Funaoka to watch cherry blossom last Sunday 2nd of April and it`s a perfect time for Hanami. We went there by car from Sendai to Funaoka castle ruins and took us about 50 minutes.
We were really excited to visit that place because it is included in the top 100 cherry blossom viewing spots in Japan. We go through the steep footpaths and hopped the old-fashioned slope car to loop your way through the blankets of pink blossom to reach the breathtaking scene at the castle`s summit.
You can see countless of cherry blossoms that were fully bloomed as if like the flowers are calling you and saying `Welcome to spring season`. There are many stalls selling food & drink. I had fried noodle, yakitori, and corn under a cherry blossom tree.
After eating, we took a small train ride through cherry blossom trees to get to the top of the hill.
From a far distance, all you can see is the sea of white and pink cherry blossoms surrounded by some spring flowers. We sat in the middle and sipped our hot coffee which is perfect for that weather. Also, we enjoyed the overlooking town that looks like a real painting with light pink Sakura and a river. Feels like I`m in heaven because of its breathtaking scenery!
