怪人二十面相 ４

　さて、いっぽう羽柴家をおそった、ひじょうな恐怖といいますのは、ほかならぬ「二十面相」のおそろしい予告状です。予告状の文面は、

On the other hand,  a tremendous fear for the Hashibas was other than a warning from "Twenty Faces." It said

「余がいかなる人物であるかは、貴下きかも新聞紙上にてご承知であろう。

 

You must know who I am from the newspapers.

 

　貴下は、かつてロマノフ王家おうけの宝冠ほうかんをかざりし大だいダイヤモンド六個を、貴家の家宝として、珍蔵ちんぞうせられると確聞かくぶんする。

 

I know you own those six diamonds once decorated on the crowns of Romanov as your family treasure.

 

　余はこのたび、右六個のダイヤモンドを、貴下より無償にてゆずりうける決心をした。近日中にちょうだいに参上するつもりである。

 

I have decided to be given those six diamonds now. I will go to get them.

　正確な日時はおってご通知する。
　ずいぶんご用心なさるがよかろう。」

というので、おわりに「二十面相」と署名してありました。

I will notify you exact day and time soon. Be careful enough.

And there was a sign saying "Twenty Faces" at the end.

　そのダイヤモンドというのは、ロシアの帝政没落ていせいぼつらくののち、ある白系はっけいロシア人が、旧ロマノフ家の宝冠を手に入れて、かざりの宝石だけをとりはずし、それを、中国商人に売りわたしたのが、まわりまわって、日本の羽柴氏に買いとられたもので、価あたいにして二百万円という、貴重な宝物ほうもつでした。

After the downfall of imperial government Rossian bought the Romanov crown, took out those decorative jem and them sold to Chinese marchant, then they were bought by Mr. Hashiba in Japan. Those diamonds are real precious jewl worth two million yen.

　その六個の宝石は、げんに、壮太郎氏の書斎の金庫の中におさまっているのですが、怪盗はそのありかまで、ちゃんと知りぬいているような文面です。

The six precious stones are really kept in the vault of the Soutarou's study. It was as if the thief new where they are crealy.

　その予告状をうけとると、主人の壮太郎氏は、さすがに顔色もかえませんでしたが、夫人をはじめ、お嬢さんも、召使いなどまでが、ふるえあがってしまいました。

When the master of the family, Soujirou recieved the warning letter he didn't budge but his wife, daughter, and servants were shaken up.

　ことに羽柴家の支配人近藤こんどう老人は、主家の一大事とばかりに、さわぎたてて、警察へ出頭しゅっとうして、保護をねがうやら、あたらしく、猛犬を買いいれるやら、あらゆる手段をめぐらして、賊の襲来しゅうらいにそなえました。

Especially the old buttler Kondo made it a huge incident, prepared for the attack well enough asking the poloce some protections and buying an aggressive dog.

 

独特の言い回しの文章ですね。それを活かしたいところですが。。現に出版されてる日本語訳を読んでみたいが、読まない;;
